I'm all for BPA. But stupidly following BPA can also lead you to not pick a C in the 1st round for 10 years. So you do what Hughes did, moved up from 26 to 21 and got one of the players he wanted.

We have multiple 1sts next year, lots of prospects and likely to finish with the 10th-14th OA pick , or earlier. We need to find a willing team but we could move up a few notches if need be and target a Senneke like guy. Big guy with skill, shot, physicality and better hands than Anderson would be a great add.

Anybody fit that description in the top 15 ?

We missed on two franchise talent in 2018 because we went for a decade-long need
My point is you should always go for BPA, but addressing need is important . You can try to achieve both by trying to move up in a draft if need be. And we were desperate in 2018, and desperation leads to mistakes.

4. LD Sam Dickinson
5. RW Michael Brandsegg-Nygard

8. LD Aron Kiviharju
9. RD Charlie Elick
10.C Konsta Helenius

Oh yeah, the top of this class is exciting. Hagens is a beauty, but Martone is too. 6'4, crazy skilled.

Hagens, Martone & Frondell have the potential to be top line / franchise players. It's a deeper draft comparable to 2023 where there was a fab 4 and still a whole bunch of potential top 6 forwards after them.

A lot of centers in top 16, too. 7 of first 10 picks could be centers.
6ft4 at the age of 17? Most of the website put him at 6ft3.

It would be nice to draft a center with the potential to be better than Nick Suzuki and Dach. We already drafted 2 elite wingers and one top 3 D.

Not to mention at the deadline we probably get another 1st round pick and several 2nd or 3rd round picks as well.

Pending on how Florida and Calgary end up, might be a very good pick. Our own is probably a top 10 pick as well.

Thinking about the fact that we might end up with two top 10 picks this year… Adding Martone and Trethewey to that lineup would be unfair for the league lmao

Newhook-Hage-Martone

I am not really excited by the 2025 draft.

At the same date last year i was excited by Celebrini, Demidov, Levshunov and Eiserman.

Hagens and Martone have the best profile right now i think, obviously A LOT will change during the years.

I like it.

Hagens, Frondell, Ryabkin, Martone, McQueen, and Spence are all fantastic prospects. Then you have Misa which I suspect will turn it on more this year than last year.

Hensler, Trethewey, Boumedienne and Shaefer are all bluechips at D as well. Honestly, I prefer the 25 draft to the 24. There SEEMS to be 15-16 top line/top pair Ds.
Hagens
Martone
Frondell
Ryabkin
McQueen

Misa
Desnoyers
Spence
Hensler
Trethewey

Boumedienne

I do think Misa is being a little slept on. He handled himself well on a team with championship aspirations at 16, and put up his second PPG+ OHL season. He's a little light, but not small, and stays on his feet through contact for the most part.

Also took more faceoffs in the playoffs than in the regular season, so I suspect with Beck and Sapovaliv graduating, he plays full time C this year.

This is a good game from the playoffs:

Highlight of him sending "man mountain" Dickinson flying at 11:20.

Pittsburgh's 2nd should be in the #45 - 50 range which will hold decent value on draft day... Anything that HuGo receives for any outgoing player trades should be deferred to 2026 draft imo.
