Winning the lottery in 2025 will have no impact on the 2026 draft. We did not ''win'' the lottery in 2022. We finished in that season.

I also love Martone. But, we seriously need a elite center prospect. I don't know if Hage can be a 2c or will end up as a 3c. Beck is a 3-4C. Misa would be perfect for us.
There is no reason to believe Misa will be better than Hage.

Misa/Martone and Desnoyers/Spence

Package our 2nds to move into round 1 for Tretheway or Fiddler.

Boom done.
Has anyone ever traded their 1st for 2 2nds (even when it was a smart move)

We’ll need to a top 5 pick and another top 10 pick for the first set to happen which means we need to hope Calgary finishes between 10-15 and use draft capital to trade up. Not sure we’ll have enough to get back into the first unless there’s a trade done in season that nets us another second.

That said I’m all for it. Martone and Desnoyers is my ultimate dream

No reason? We are talking about a player about to be drafted in the top 5 vs a late first round. The change of Hage being better than Misa or Martone is still low.

All it takes is a couple defenseman to jump into the top 10 grouping and the Flames pick to be in that 11-12 spot, but yeah it's a day dream, but we might as well day dream for now.

If this situation plays out, who would you take at 4? It would be Michael Misa for me. Things can change in the next few months obviously though.

Hagens/Misa/Martone are gone top 3, and we're probably not getting a pick in that range.

Spence I could see us getting if Flames' pick is right outside the top 10.

But Desnoyers I think will get taken in the top 10 given how good he's been at both ends of the ice this year so I really don't think we'll have a chance at him with our second pick in the first round.

Unless we add to that pick in a trade, or teams drafting higher than us suddenly stop valuing two-way centers with skills, size, smarts, skating ability, a decent shot, and no real flaw.

I will give you Fiddler and Tretheway though, that we could realistically target if we trade our 2nds+ to get a pick in the 20s.

But unfortunately, there is no "boom and done" about it.

Fair enough. But other than him, I’ve read that D prospects are thin.

Thin at the top maybe, but the secondary options are interesting again this year.

Just, many teams have holes at D like us, so those secondary options that would be good second-round or later picks will most likely get overdrafted and end up going higher than their talent level would normally warrant.

It’s probably thin, but there is Jackson Smith that I love a lot and see going top 10, and also Schaefer. Don’t see Hensler going top 10. If we draft at 5 this year I can see us going Schaefer/Smith with how horrendous our D has been.

But when you’re inside the top 10 at the beginning of the year, everything can happen based on needs and so on.

I’ll post my top ~20 with some honorables mentions later this month, but Smith will be a riser. I was spot on for Sennecke last year..

Behm in Kamloops having a great year. Big forward, has 12 goals in 14 games. He could be a good one with Flames pick

I understand but fear we will become top heavy like the Oilers (pre SCF era) and the leafs.
We can’t score either. No guarantee Laine returns to form or if he stays long term. So really you have Demidov and are banking on Hage to be great. There’s still a Top 6 spot to cover.

Yeah I definitely want us to go C with our top pick. There will be great RHD options with our other 1st and both early 2nds.
