Yes, the bluenose line................make it happen.
At any point from 2018 to 2022 a line of Marchand-Crosby-MacKinnon could have been monstrous. Never would have thought that Nova Scotia could produce a line that would terrify any team at any level. And really, even without the Nova Scotia connection it is a line that makes absolute sense.

Agreed, think that line would have torn the place apart in that time frame. And yeah, never could have imagined Nova Scotia could have ever produced that kind of talent when I was growing up, to have them come all in the more or less same period.............unthinkable really. They have left quite a legacy for hockey down home, gonna be an awful difficult act to follow.

We're trying to get Zaitsev out of the line-up in Ottawa and you have him on a national team.

It may be improved but still, yeeeesh.

As an Oil fan.. if we acquired Sergacheav, Provorov or Zub.. I'd be happy!

Well things are going into the point that the russians return. So lets make a roster projection for them;

Panarin - Kuznetsov - Kucherov
Kaprizov - Malkin - Nichushkin
Ovechkin - Namestnikov - Svechnikov
Buchnevich - Barbashyov - Guryanov
Tarasenko, Morozov (I added young Ivan Morozov, hes a good prospect and Russia lacks centers)

Sergachev - Zub
Provorov - Orlov
Romanov - Zaitsev
Gavrikov - Samorukov

Vasilevsky - Shestyorkin - Sorokin

Between Sorokin and Bobrovsky I had to think a loooong time but ended up
on Sorokin.

I hope those guys play at the North American group with Canada and USA. The can have their triple super series and destroy the poor qualifier team.

I'd do this:

Kaprizov - Kuznetsov - Kucherov
Panarin - Malkin - Nichushkin
Buchnevich - Barbashyov - Tarasenko
Ovechkin - Podkolzin - Svechnikov

Provorov - Zub
Sergachyov - Gavrikov
Orlov - Zadorov
Voynov - Romanov

Vasilevsky
Shestyorkin
Sorokin

Best goaltending and top-end wingers in the tournament. Center is weak. Defense is no worse than Finland's.
Pod has played center on a few occasions, his motor and defense would be great there. I'd have him centering Svechnikov. Put Ovechkin with the kids and use him endlessly on the PP.
Keep the St. Louis guys together.
Nichushkin is the perfect compliment for Panarin's style.
Kucherov/Kaprizov would be deadly.

Alexei Zhamnov is coach,
He stresses a very strong defensive game. This could be very advantageous for Russia at this level if everybody buys in.

I still think this US team miss someone on their forward group like Kesler, who isn't necessarily flashy but does all the little things well and is strong defensively and a pain in the ass to play against. There's a lot flash and dash here, and I bet they can do all those Zorro moves the kids like, but if you're up against say Canada you need some cynicism too and strong play off the puck, not just a lot of dipsy dangling.

I agree. I’d leave a couple of Gaudreau, Kane, Zegras and J.Hughes at home and bring some more low-ego role players. But then again even Canada is now smaller and quicker than the teams of the past

This is the type of thinking that gets us guys like Justin Abdelkader on the roster. No thanks. The U.S. has an elite offensive group-embrace it.

MacKinnon was asked at the NHL pre-season media event who he would like to play with in a 2024 World Cup.

"Sid and Marchy. All from Nova Scotia. It would be a pretty cool thing for us. I'll play right wing."

I'd like to see them give it a test drive at the WHC before the 2024 main event... just for shits and giggles.

Sid and Marchy might be available, but the Avs look as though they'll be playing deep into the playoffs for the next half decade or so.

Was just watching Putty's latest bluster with my morning coffee... and having a good laugh at it. Funny stuff. If you think Russian teams will see the light of the civilized world in the foreseeable future, you better reevaluate.

Not happening.

Sure, let them in and see the Finns, Swedes, Czech, and the rest of EU skip the "World Cup" of Hockey. But hey, people get to worship the one-trick pony/PutinTeam-disciple Great 8 eh....

What put Trochek or Beniers (if he’s ready) instead of skill guys on the 4th line for that exact reason

You never know but I'd be shocked. Getting old plus all three have already won the tournament. Would be fun to see though. The 2015 tournament did have a lot of the Nova Scotia training crew with Crosby, MacKinnon, Duchene, and Spezza all there.

Wasn't Sid on a line mostly with Hall and Ebs? Not quite the same as as the Bluenose Trio.

I think Sid and Marchy got a few more tournys left in them. Nate has several
many many more before he finishes up.

They weren't a line, but they did comprise a good part of the core of the team. You're right that Crosby was with Hall and Eberle. I'd be quite shocked if either of Crosby or Marchand played again given their ages and that they have won. MacKinnon has played three times and won once... I could see him going again in perhaps a leadership role but if he never showed again I wouldn't hold it against him. His 2017 performance is pretty much the perfect example of why young guys should go to the tournament.

True. Maybe those guys will be in a lineup playing for Donbas United ;)

Huh?

Imagine leaving a 40g 115p winger off of a team like this.

Gaudreau - Matthews - M Tkachuk
B Tkachuk - Hughes - Kane
Guentzel - Eichel - Debrincat
Copp - Larkin - Miller
Connor, Robertson
