Hellebuyck was very pleasant to us when we accidentally met him at Bagelsmith on Taylor St, earlier this spring. He loved my kid's car and spent a few moments chatting. He and his partner (also a very sweet person) were grabbing breakfast. Nice dude - very gracious and courteous, and personally will miss his brand of hockey - if this rumour is correct.
If 2 guys are strongly rumoured to be out, they know things that we have speculated on this board and that is they do not believe in this group to take the next step.
That’s not to say they don’t like each other because they likely do.
It’s funny the players see it, our former coach sees it but the GM and owner don’t APPEAR to see it.

I agree and like both of these posts but if and when Helle is traded he is dead to me
Depends where he's traded to

There's a list of about 4 teams that I havent developed hate for over the past 30+ seasons cheering for Jets v1.0 and v2.0

But if he ends up in Toronto or Vegas....

I think any trade of Helle to the Penguins would probably have to involve Granlund for salary cap reasons. So maybe the Jets would get 2023 1st, Pickering & Granlund.
yup this is roughly the deal ive been a proponent of. id ask for their 2024 2nd and we'd send back a later pick, so we upgrade our pick by a round+ for taking on the Granlund contract. We could use another top-6er w/ Wheeler likely gone, and Scheifele too. Play Granlund top-6 w/ some combo of ehlers, connor on the wing, and move him perhaps next off-season for picks/prospect.

2023 1st-14th Overall. Pickering is a recent 1st rd pick in the early 20s. so a mid 1st, and another v recent 1st rd prospect (drafted in the early 20s). I know he's LHD but given he was recent drafted he can play a full year in the AHL still and is chomping at the bit like Heinola or Stanley. Speaking of, they'll likely trade Stanley. so it does net equal in prospect on LD. Heinola who knows what happens to him.

PIT gets a Vezina caliber goalie + cap-space to re-sign him if they please. they also could use the space to re-sign Guentzel. importantly, they maximize the remaining of Malkin and Sid's current contracts and get a great goalie to solidify the position after coming off Jarry's inconsistencies (UFA).

I figured when that reporter got in to with him about his baby during the pandemic that that was the beginning of the end for helle here. Bottom line, if you don't want to be here, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I really can’t think of a sports reporter based in Winnipeg worth their salt. Murat, I guess?

Our dogs were good friends at the dog park so we spent a lot of time standing awkwardly together and making small talk. He is indeed a nice guy and his partner was great and honestly much easier to talk to

I also like this deal but after I made this deal, I'd call Philly and ask so Carter Hart for Jets 1st round pick, while the 1st we acquired from Pittsburgh is a couple spots higher anyways.

Helly is worth a good $10,000,000 per season contract. IMO he's just not worth 7 years of that contract. So, some team is going to trade for him and find out in 3 or 4 years it was not a good idea. They will just have to hope he wins it all in those first few years.

I think if there was ever a position to gamble on long-term into the player's 30s it would be for a goaltender. I also think there's enough GMs in the league that truly believe you don't build a winner without taking those kinds of risks. It's unlikely his play drops off the face of the earth in his late 30s too so even if top 5 goaltending becomes top 10 it's easily worth 7-8 million under a ~90 million cap.

If it does drop off the face off the earth well the GM probably gets fired into the sun unless his name is Kevin Cheveldayoff.

Very wrong and it probably plays a role here although that was 2 3 years ago now and like a once in a lifetime thing so not sure it should matter

Dude let in multiple weak goals. Some of that was on him, he was outplayed by Laurent brossoit ffs. Helle also wants to play 65 plus games so yeah part of the problem was him also. Don't get me wrong, he's an elite goalie but seems like in the playoffs, he's just average
The guy played 13 straight games to drag this corpse of a roster into the dance. Simply put, he was exhausted. You need to load manage him; he’s too proud to say he is/was overworked.

Met Helly at the Dog park with his wife quite a bit over the past year or so. Really nice guy and so was his wife. I can't say enough good things about him. Had nothing but nice things to say about his life in Winnipeg and he enjoyed the outdoor life around. here. He wants to win though and I can't blame him for that. If they are not able to keep there top guys around then he is well; within his rights to leave and I hope he can win a cup with another team some day.

Back in the day, Reyn Davis and Vic Grant come to mind...:sarcasm:
Mike MacIntyre and Jeff Hamilton have produced some good work. Scott Billick has been good as well. It's just too bad he works for the Sun. I can recall MacIntyre reporting the issue being the room after the loss to the Blues but was dismissed by most because he was formerly the Free Press crime reporter and not a sports reporter.

If 1290 had employed more like Vic Grant they are probably still on the air. Well maybe not but it would have been a lot better content then the water carrying we got from Toth, Rick Ralph, etc. Amazing that without access to the team and being the home broadcaster all these new independent types are starting to speak their mind.

Winter is Coming
I've met a few of the boys through mutual friends and daughters extra curricular activities. Wheels and Sam (his wife) are 2 of the nicest most humble people. Hellle and Ehlers tho are the 2 most genuine. Morrissey really genuine too. Only guy who maybe wasn't was Scheif who when I met him, kinda stuck to his group but seemed good with the kids tho
