Unlike a lot of posters, I view this Helle and Dubois situations as a big opportunity for the Jets, if they play their cards right. A lot of GM's will be romanced by all the hype around Helle, and be willing to part with "great assets", that will be a lot less expensive. They will think he'll save the day, but it takes a whole team. Helle is a 30 year old guy with a .920 save percentage during the regular season. and only a .881 in playoffs. I would not want to be into an 8 year contract with him, at 10 mil per season. Look at the former great goalies like Marc Andre Fluery, Jonathon Quick, and Carey Price from Montreal. Then look at Frederick Anderson who took the Canes to the semi finals, but wasn't good enough for Toronto ? These guys all age out, and eventually decline.
Personally I like the way Vegas has built their club, with a lot of upper middle talent, and great depth. Vegas has also done this with minus a big name Goaltender, in Hayden Hill. They picked up guys like Karlsen, and Stevenson, that were playing on the 3rd line and 4th lines on other teams, and turned them into great players. They are a very sharp organization.
These "big name" legacy contracts get you nowhere, unless they make sense, and at Helles age (30) he's a very bad fit, to get into heavy money and term with him, but "great" as trade bait, to build some strong depth to your hockey club, just the way Vegas has done it. This period of time is a great window of opportunity for the Jets, if things are done right. I'm looking forward to this.
We are in a Cap world right now in the NHL, and you can't just buy a team, you have to measure and balance talent, along with finances.
Chevy has got to play chess here, while the other GM's play checkers.
