The 2021 roster was the best one the team had. Vladdy actually had a year up to his potential. Since then, his best year was a 2.8 WAR. Last year it was 1.0 which is terrible for him. Bo's best year was 2021 and he's had a worse WAR in each of the following seasons.

Turner and Biggio are the only two players who have an OPS around where they should be or more. The rest are significantly lower. I was perplexed by how there were few changes with the hitting coaches. There were a number of guys who had seasons well below expectations. I don't have the stats but it seems there's a lot of weak contact with the team. Not like they are pounding the ball and getting unlucky.

Atkins has a poor feel for when to make moves.

He’s squandered so many things. An elite pitching season last year where he couldn’t supplement the roster with hitting. A well balanced team in 2021 and he refused to acquire more help at the deadline.

Just a failure as a GM.

I see a 4-9 record to start the year. Maybe sneak 1 out vs the yankees. But there is no way this terrible offense gets anything off of castillo,kirby and gilbert. They are better then the astros trio that just shut them out

He acquired Berrios at the deadline in 2021.

EDIT: He should have acquired better bullpen arms at the deadline.

Atkins had such a great offseason, Semien, Springer, and Ray. A Cy Young winner and an MVP candidate.

5 out of 7 games 2 runs or less, if this futility tonight continues.

Dominated by the starting pitcher 5 out of 7 games, and really in game 1 too until they got to Eflin in the 6th.

Yeah 2021 was wrecked by a piss poor bullpen for the first two months. I think they got Cimber and Richards that year and that helped, and they almost clawed back to make it. I think they would have made some noise in the playoffs if they made it in 2021.

Last year it was so CLEARLY visible that they couldnt drive runnres in after a couple months, yet they did nothing at the deadline. And they barely made it, and then got bounced fast because they couldnt score a run.

Wes Parsons so we gave up on the game ...

I understand there's injuries but a guy like Parsons should not pitch even when there's injury.
 
Please tell me how and why parsons made the team? Honestly management f***ing sucks. Fire everyone already.
 
As a pitcher it must be disheartening to know you have to throw a shutout just to tie.

Also had Roark in the rotation.

Even if they did acquire a bat last year, I doubt it would have mattered. There were so many holes in the lineup. Even with this lineup, currently adding one more good bat wouldn't matter if Springer, Bo, Vladdy, Varsho, and Kirk continue to hit below expectations.
 
If it wasn't for the Babe, not only would the Jays have gotten swept, they would have been shutout in every game. Lol.

I’m trying my best not to be super negative but there’s really nothing to be excited about. How long of a leash do we think Schneider has for this season? Can’t imagine Atkins has a much longer one than him either. I know it’s early but it looks like last season with the pitching not being as good. That was our only saving grace last year

The guy can’t finish. He’s the Kevin Cheveldayoff of the MLB. Builds decent rosters but lacks that finishing touch to put teams over the top.

Is anybody really surprised that they're this inept at the plate?

I saw this coming a million miles away.
