MLB playoffs are so random I don't think one can really put a finishing touch on a roster.
You can try though. Dodgers have tried a few times and failed but at least they try every year. Jays can’t even win a playoff game under Atkins.

As a pitcher it must be disheartening to know you have to throw a shutout just to tie.
Are you really surprised that the offense has been this bad though?

The overwhelming majority of the fanbase saw this coming a million miles away.

Part of the problem which doesn't get mentioned as often as it should, the Jays farm system has sucked for the last few years. More difficult to make those trade deadline moves when there are fewer trade chips. Furthermore, I don't think moves last year would have benefitted the team. There were too many holes as I have said previously. He should have made more moves in 2022. 2021 the trade deadline moves were good.

Before the offseason began I wanted at the bare minimum hitting coaching changes but that never happened. I was okay with Atkins leaving as well as long as the person replacing him was better.

I don't know if a change in an organization's approach to hitting has screwed up the bats but many underperformed last year and this year is brutal. Only Turner is hitting well.

Just a tapestry of failure all around.

I gotta say getting outscored 19-2 over 3 games but finding a way to win one of the games is quite impressive

He just does what he's told. There's a reason they put in a rookie manager on a team that was supposed to contend - he wouldn't offer any pushback.

These guys are acolytes of the Billy Beane philosophy - your manager is just there to sit and look pretty, the analytics team makes all the important decisions.
I believe this as well. Which is such an insane way to run a sports team.
I get that data and analytics have their place, but to completely over rely on them at the expense of f***ING COMMON SENSE? come on. even as blue jays fans.... do we want to support that?

One thing i wonder though is why a guy like Don Mattingly is even here and what is he actually doing? He seems like an old school guy who would be dead against the way this team is being run. What gives.

The way this season has started is such a punch to the gut. And they're heading into the belly of the beast to play the yankees now. Lol. sigh.

Lol everyone gna say relax it's only 7 games into the season. Nah this game 169 with a trash offense.

I’m trying my best not to be super negative but there’s really nothing to be excited about. How long of a leash do we think Schneider has for this season? Can’t imagine Atkins has a much longer one than him either. I know it’s early but it looks like last season with the pitching not being as good. That was our only saving grace last year
The team is in a slump. There's no way everyone wil bat for under 200 at the end of the season. There will be better sequences and i still personally expect this team to be in the race for a wild card spot at the end of the season because of pitching. But before the start of last season (spring 2023) i was convince the offense was not good enough to go all the way thru and nothing i've seen last year and in those 7 games has convinced me otherwise.

Not only does Vlad disappoint and is nowhere near to be one of the top player in the league but even if he would be that would still not be enough. The supporting cast is too weak. Springer looks like a guy who is on the decline and has been looking like that for over a year now. Kirk is not in shape and he doesn't look to be interested in fixing that. Jansen is often injured. The other guys are defensive specialists.

I'm looking at the 2021 lineup and man the offense was much better. Springer was better back then. Siemien was a top player in the league. Hernandez despite all his flaws was offensively speaking a dominant player. Guys like Grichuk and Gurriel were okay support players offensively speaking and were batting where they should be in the lineup. Outside of Grichuk pretty much everyone had an OPS of around 800.

I get the run prevention thing but at some point you can't win all games 2-1 or 3-2 in baseball. It's not hockey. A BB along with a lucky single and bam a HR and it's 3 insta runs against you before you can bat an eye and the defense can't do anything about it. It's hard to win a WS with a middling offense and the offense has been middle of the pack for over a year now and i disagree with people saying this offense underperform i think it comes as advertised on TV.

Atkins absolutely 100% has to acquire either a dominant 3rd base or dominant LF before the deadline if he wants this team to have any chance to go far in the playoffs. Or he has to tell his coach to give kids a chance. The platoon thing wont work unless they steal lot of bases. If you got no speed and no power it's the kiss of death.

Obviously things haven't gone well, but I wonder just how good Vladdy really is. I think he's been way overhyped and I don't see him as a franchise player. With him coming out of team controlled years I think the team should seriously looks at trading him while his stock is high.

Before anyone jumps in here calling me crazy, remember back when the Jays traded another big name 1B in Fred McGriff along with Tony Fernandez and landed Carter and Alomar. Vladdy has been here long enough for most of us to know he's been pretty overhyped. I think he's never going to be the type of player that justifies the gross contract he's going to get next.

When you have a deeper top 6 batting lineup, it makes everyone else better. They had a front row seat in 2021 but couldn't figure it out?

I’d have no issue trading Vlad but I wouldn’t say his value is high. He wasn’t overhyped he just never lived up to it. The hype was real and very much warranted. I desperately want him to finally break through and be a better version of what he was becoming but I lose more and more faith as we move along. He’s still super young and he could find it but he’s getting real pricey for what he brings at this point. He seems to get worse with less weight lol. This year is going to be very interesting to see how all the cards play out. Gm/manager are both on their last legs so we shall see

Kiemaier and IKF was wasted money. 18M would've been better spent on offense.

Really hard to believe this team spent around 50M this winter.
For a team thats apparently close to the 2nd level of the luxury tax threshold, the lineup they've fielded this year is absolutely terrible.

People here were criticizing me when I said Vladdy didn't deserve the arbitration award he got, because of poor performance in the past two years.

Well, here ya go. he could arguably be even worse this year while making more.

Atkins, man, he is a terrible GM. Should have been fired in the winter, but Shapiro is loyal to him. Seriously, both should go.

I feel like we are panicking, I guess for good reason, but gotta remember this is a long season. 3-4 road trip so far is not disastrous. Unless they get swept by the Yankees, this road trip is ok. if Yanks sweep us, then I will be panicking lol.

Yanks are feeling good, they've had a good start to the season. They will be cocky and confident, while the Jays will be biting their nails at every at bat, because how bad they've been.
