Would you bet money on them turning it completely around?

Because we said the same thing last season. First it was only 3 games. Then it was only 25 games. Then it was only 80 games. Then it was maybe they’ll turn it around for the playoffs. We all know how that went.

Atkins signing a 38 year old Turner to be the solution to the offensive woes from last year isn’t good.
They made the playoffs last year. I’m not entirely sold on them this year, but I’m not going to start flipping out after 3 games

Probably fair.

Should note though that most of the fanbase and media flipped out on them after last season and they still decided to go into this season with basically the same players, same management and same coaches.

Why do we sign scrubs i.e Vogelbach and give them opportunities over our young talent i.e Horwitz?

Or why would we sign a scrub like that, when our highest-OPS hitter last year, Belt, is sitting at home begging a team to sign him. We gave the guy 9 mil last year, he delivered, and now we won't bring him back on a league minimum. Boggles the mind.

For me, the frustrating part is the players who were brought in. Clement likely takes IKF's spot at 3B. Turner could easily be over the hill. Could have used that money for an impact bat which they need.

Even KK, might not be needed because Varsho can easily play CF.

It boggles the mind, you're right. Belt whiffed a lot, but I don't think it matters when your OPS is higher than .850.

Please don't play Vogelbach, IKF, or Kiermaier tomorrow. Play the young guys and see what you have. Drop Varsho down to 7th.

  1. RF Springer
  2. 1B Vlad
  3. SS Bichette
  4. DH Turner
  5. C Kirk
  6. 3B Clement
  7. CF Varsho
  8. LF Schneider
  9. 2B Biggio
Scheduled starter for the Rays tomorrow is a lefty. Biggio has decent splits vs LHP, definitely worth playing over IKF even against lefties, but for some reason the team is allergic to doing it.

What we're actually going to see is

RF Springer
1B Vlad
SS Bo
DH Turner
C Kirk
2B Clement
LF Schneider
CF Varsho
3B IKF

lol, 3 games into the season.
There clean up hitter is a 39 year old DH that needs rest in game 3 of the season. They spent 32 million on KK, IKF and Rodriguez. I’m all for pitching and defensive depth but not at the cost of acquiring a middle of the order bat. The priority in the off-season seems bizarre to me. They needed a Joc Pederson or J.D Martinez type bat and at least one more bat. Maybe they could have been more patient or paid a little more money. Banking on Turner to help carry this offence is risky.

I don't even think the front office is happy with how there offseason went. They would probably admit it didn't go to plan. Banking on Turner to help carry this offence is risky.
He didn’t need rest, they probably just want to get everyone involved early. The free agency market was trash, Belt is meh, 30 other teams agree.

It’s kind of a weird year, do they commit long term to Vladdy and Bo? Maybe they make a big trade in season. Lots of questions for sure

I don't think Vogelbach is a guy you need to get involved early. I don't even know if he even makes it more then a month. They probably just don't want to over do it with Turner.

You’re probably right about Vogelbach. It was definitely an underwhelming offseason, but I just don’t think the options were really good. I think they make a big splash at some point in the season with a trade

Does Belt even entertain a league min deal?

Vogelbach was a minor league deal with a spring training invite. He was a cheap lottery ticket that worked out, not some directed gambit that they jumped the gun to get.

What do you mean by "he worked out"

Personally, I'd rather just rotate DH through the young guys i.e Horwitz or Schneider. Maybe even Barger at some point.

Their offense looks weak. Probably most already know that. Barring a trade, I don't see this changing anytime soon. Management has been derelict.
