WJC: 2024 Team Canada Roster Talk - Part 1

Meh. They haven’t played that much 5 on 5 together on the Ice/Wild that it is an absurdity to play them apart.

Germany beating Finland cuts into how positively I was feeling about how easily we handled them yesterday, I must add.

But the others that have played with Geekie have been terrible fits. Even if they don't play 5 on 5 they spend a lot of time on the PP together know each better than others.

Feels like they want Minten and Dumais to work so they are forcing them to play with someone to get them going not because of anything they have done.

I've seen Dumais and Geekie click on several passing plays, they're getting looks in the offensive zone every shift.

They are the top line with Isogai on the other wing since Savoie came back from Buffalo. It's been 11 games, Geekie has 26 points in that time together, Savoie 24. The real winner is probably Isogai since he's shown he can third wheel on that line and might get an OA look, but still, Geekie at center and Savoie on RW have been rolling in all situations for weeks.

Absolutely. It’s just not a pairing that has been around for years, which would be impossible to justify separating.

TSN seems convinced the 13th forward position is a battle between Wood or Rehkopf, they both certainly look like they deserve a spot though.

Edit: a spot with consistent minutes.

I don't know what Rehkopf has to do to earn a regular shift. I think they're being too cute, he's probably the best goal scorer on the team outside of Celebrini. Wood, Yager and even Cowan would probably be better choices for the 13th forward.

Yeah he looks lethal anywhere near the puck, not just the net. I think the coaching staff has definitely shown preference to the 19 year olds (minus Celebrini, obviously) so Wood, Yager, Cowboy and Rehk are defenitely the ones they will decide between. None of them play anything alike each other either so, what a tough choice!

Yeager has played well not sure why he would be there.

It was a pretty good day for all of the guys involved in the 13th forward discussion, which is a great sign. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't need to be any one player riding the pine. Whoever is struggling at the moment gets to sit down, and then they get back on the horse the next time out.

The team is looking really good.

With a 10 spot, today, and a Goal Diff of +13, if we can beat Sweden in regulation, we should have the top spot when they reseed before the semis. Usually that's good. We'll see.

American fans are concerned about how easily their players are getting pushed around and they only beat Norway by 3 so no one is running away with this.

Let's be happy with how well things have played out thus far.

They're all the youngest players. It's often just a 19 year old tournament with the obvious exception being the exceptional players (Celebrini anyone?!).

Fair enough I am just frustrated with the play of some of the supposed better players up front.

For sure, don't disagree but its only been a few games and I would imagine they are going to use every single minute they can to try and find as much chemistry as possible before the elimination rounds begin. 13th guy could still be anyone by the time it matters.

According to Sports Interaction...

We are now tied with the U.S. (odds wise) to win. We were underdogs so we must be doing something right.

of course the 9th and 11th NHL picks are gonna dominate playing together in the W as 19 year olds. Doesn’t mean their play styles suit each other extremely well and make optimal lines when playing US or the Swedes. Playing against the loaded USA roster is a lot different than playing against the tri city americans

For selfish reasons I want the Dumais-Celebrini-Rehkopf line to stick. I like Dumais-Geekie but I strongly dislike Minten as the 3rd forward on that line. Savoie has struggled but maybe he'd be a better fit there
