Drury is in a tough spot. We would have to bleed the farm dry to actually address all of the issues with our roster and really "go for it" with this core. Personally, I don't think we're good enough to warrant that, and I don't trust our vets to be able to "flip the switch" come playoff time. I think I'd rather shop the bargain bin and see if we get lucky come playoff time, rather than mortgage the future.

That's exactly where I am at as well.

I don't want to have to wait an extra 5 years to have a good team again because we traded away 4 consecutive 1st round picks like we did a decade ago.

In a day and age where the playoffs are a crapshoot, I'd rather have a lot of kicks at the can.

Not too upset to see Tarasenko go to Florida. He is what he is, not sure he gives Florida anything they didnt already have in spades. Could take them out of the mix for Zucker; never saw them in on Guentzel.

Its fascinating to think about the frenzy going on beneath the surface with all these rumors. Lots of activity and guys being held out of the lineup. Can we get a Wennberg update from somewhere?

I thought Boston was pretty loaded last year as well. Didn't end too well. Florida is stacked but a bad or two for Bob and things could get tight quickly.

I'd trade Kakko+1st for Guentzel if we were going to be re-signing him but I don't see how that's possible unless they know Chytil isn't coming back and/or they're planning on trading Trouba.

Guentzel is really freaking good, he's a needle mover on his own - he's NOT just a byproduct of Crosby.
If they buyout Goodrow and trade Kakko as part of the deal it’s doable, very tight to the cap but doable. Not saying they should.

If youre going for the best player available, Guentzel is the guy and honestly, deal with the fallout in the offseason. Kakko is solid but he isnt part of the core and you need to negotiate an extension with him this summer. A pick in the 20s and a young roster player who is in the process of being squeezed out for a consistent 80 point wing is a good deal, even for a rental. What do the Rangers get when they trade Kakko this summer? A second at best? Something to think about at least.

Because they didn't acquire Tarasenko at full salary?
They should've signed one of him or Kane and gotten rid of Goodrow in the offseason.

The opportunity cost in keeping Goodrow so long is the problem area.

And for those who say we would've gotten fleeced in a Goodrow cap dump trade, we'll likely give up more now to try to acquire a 1RW at the deadline.

Guentzel could get 9+ million on the open market. A PPG, 30+ goal scoring winger? Yeah, some teams are willing to pay that with the upcoming raise to the cap, even if the latter years would suck.

That said, if you could get Guentzel with Kakko and a 1st, I think that's something you have to seriously consider. Rangers have a shot winning this year, and Guentzel would be such a difference maker.

Normally I would not give up our young prospects; but there is no clear Cup favorite this year. You have to consider that because this could be the year to go for it. Get one big difference maker and maybe one or two smaller depth moves. No point in hanging on to all of your prospects who may or may not pan out. Not saying you get rid of all of your prospects but you need to give to get.

A player like Guentzel has won Cups and he isn’t 35 years old. He still has some good years left. But that means a 1st and one of Othmann and Perrault for sure especially if he extends.

No, because they are going to f***ing empty out their valuable long term assets for aging players again on the delusion that they are going to be able to fix their problems and win a Cup.

They'll have the same punchers chance they had yesterday.

Nothing's happened yet, my man. I don't like Drury either, but let's let the next two days play out before we jump to any conclusions.

would people on here be ok with a 1st, jones, and othmann for guentzel?

id drive jones and othmann to pitt myself
Pitt wouldn't. It's clear Dubas wants a decent roster player. That means either Kakko or Cuylle to fit that bill. Obviously Schneider but he can not be traded!
If they took that package then probably. What scares me is giving a 30 year old 8 years X 9 million.

why don't you wait to see what happens before you lose your shit

and drury was smart enough to hold onto their first round pick last year and selected perreault with it...I don't think he's 100% going all in and will trade everything for a kick at the can. TBH last year would have been fine if not for the f***ing Kane disaster.
