turns out he sort of needs a generational center to produce.... WHY ARE WE DOING THIS!?

from the last 3 seasons...

Geuntzel is typical NYR move that fall flat on it's face imo

Very wary of this myself. Crazy gamble for a high end rental.

8 year extension through age 37 would be the cherry on top.

It's been reported a few times that there were only a handful of teams he was interested in and the Rangers weren't one them. I think I read it on here and twitter. He was never linked to the Rangers. Him signing elsewhere should be no surprise.
Can't put too much weight on that. Same rumors said he had a deal in place with Tampa but that would be tampering as the Flames didn't give him permission to work on a contract with Tampa.

We also don't know if Drury ever showed Interest and thus would eliminate the Rangers from the conversation if he didn't.

well, pretty much, I think my point would be why twist ourselves into pretzels about how drury failed if we don't know what was possible or not

I can only report on what I read. You were the one who is upset and just assumes Drury didn't do his due diligence. Nobody really knows.

Eh why twist yourself into a pretzel by following a team who has 1 stanley cup in over 80 years? We each have our reasons i guess.

Guentzel is injured right? That'd be my big concern along with dubas's price demands. I don't want to send two good near NHL ready prospects to a division rival for a rental. And I certainly don't want to pay Jake what he'll want on a contract.

That said, he really would fit this team's needs like a glove. He's a forechecking menace, he's quick and slippery, and all he does is score postseason goals.

Absolutely Hanifin would have made the Rangers a better team....but only if he took minutes away from Trouba and/or Lindgren and that wasn't going to happen unless either of those guys are traded. Our 3rd pair is FINE, they aren't the problem.

But we knew all this as we go into Friday. We might get a 7d insurance guy, and probably will find someone to fill in for 1RW, but the D was never in the cards to be "fixed".

Drury doesn't like dealing in division. Gorton had no issue. I just don't see it with the Rangers and Guentzel. He's also a LW and not a RW.

Vatrano is a no go with his cap hit. Anaheim can't retain. They're on crack for asking for a 1st for him. I'd rather pay a 3rd for a second duty of Anthony Duclair if they want that type of player.
