Remember last year when the Rangers played a week with like 12 guys to bank cap space for the hipless corpse of Patrick Kane.
I member, from the start it never felt like it was the needle mover though. Drury has been big game hunting since the Eichel talks, and we've only gotten deeper since then. I think it's time for something big

They dodged a bullet not getting Guentzel and I don't care what anybody says and how much they cry. Not a fit, no Crosby, would cost a lot in assets, turning 30, and wants 9 million per. No thanks.

I have to admit I was never that big on this one. A natural left wing glued to Crosby of all people never moved from one team? That’s a tough one.

Again Buch is like this blaring no brainer to me other than pride getting in the way

Incorrect.

Kreider signed long term
Zibby contract looming
Kakko and LaF drafted in back to back seasons
Panarin signed long term

All huge factors. Buch has his best season on a shortened schedule…
They weren’t going to commit big $$ to another wing long term based on the body of work.

To buchs credit, he continued to develop and make himself into a solid PPG guy over the last few seasons.

But not recognizing all these things that affect others is just lying to yourself

@80shockeywasbuns did the math so you wouldn't have to. All that was already baked in. Drury made other choices.

Reaves (1.75) + Goodrow (3.64) + Nemeth (2.5) = 7.9 million

Buchnevich (5.8) + League minimum bum (750k) + league minimum bum (750k)= 7.3 million

How’d he score 40 last year?
Legit question about how that squares. I feel like this year has been a huge disappointment obviously
Because league scoring is a stone's throw from the 80's.

Kakko's 40 points that we keep hearing about placed him 226th in the NHL among forwards that year in p/60 AT EVEN STRENGTH.

By the crude method of 6 times 32, that's not a top six player.

Hell, it's not close. 9 times 32 is 288. 40 points is a middling third liner today.

My uncles brothers friend just saw Shesterkin on the NJ Turnpike... he said he's going to go pick up Buch

Is having a 3rd liner than can score 40-50 points and play defense a bad thing?

No but then we're getting into how I think his overall game is underwhelming, and how he manages the puck like Magic Johnson managed safe sex.

That's a bit separate from the issue of just points.

The puck management is huge. If Kakko didn't give the puck away if you look at him funny I'd be a lot more forgiving.

It's the same thing with Zibanejad.

"Oh he sucks but 80 points tho."

A center scoring 70+ points in the NHL in 2024 is like a guard shooting 40% from three in the NBA in 2024.

It sounds hard but every modicum of a good player does it. It's totally JAG.
