Whoever the IDIOT is who suggested such a thing - isn't going to be an 'NHL executive' for very long.

That's not going to 'fix' anyone... feels like a guy trying to push Anaheim's agenda.

I have no doubt he will.

I don't have your confidence he will. I'm pivoting to hoping Nuke, and some stability revives Mitts.

They absolutely need to strengthen the defense. It's difficult to see them doing both looking at the landscape of teams not selling.

They can easily do "Big" without trading Mitts though.

Mittelstadt even in his struggles is very clearly ahead of all those guys.

They can on the back end for sure, there's cap space.

But up front, what would that look like? A merc/sniper type on the 3rd line?

Avs definitely need more offensive production (17th in GF/GP since Jan 1st) from somewhere. And IMO, the most obvious spot to get it from is 2C.

Everyone wanted Mittlestadt. He seemed like a fairly safe option with a bit more to give. But he just isn’t a fit.

In retrospect, Hertl was probably the better option.
No I hated trading Byram for Fatty. I wanted Hertl but everyone told me he wasn’t available(which seemed to be the case but Vegas got it done). In retrospect he hasn’t produced all that well in Vegas either but I still believe he was a good fit in Colorado.

The Fatty campaign was led by Henchman and Co.

Not that I think they should or will trade for him, but why couldn't they?

They traded him to Chicago, who then Chicago traded him to Carolina with retention.

Chicago wouldn't be able to trade for him due to the retention. I don't believe there would be anything stopping Colorado from doing so though.
It would be cap circumvention to trade a player to another team for salary retainment and then trading him back go the original team.

Anytime someone with full no trade protection gets traded, just assume they were never an option for the Avs.

They aren't even using Nemec as their 3rd pair D and they dont have a world beater there. They have said he is available and the player is not happy, he does not have the value of his draft pedigree at this point.
The Jiricek trade yo Minnesota is probably a good comparable

Jiricek was in a similar situation to start the season with Columbus, up and down between the NHL and AHL.

Jiricek returned:
  • Daemon Hunt
  • 2025 1st
  • 2027 2nd
  • 2026 3rd
  • 2026 4th
Jiricek was the 6th overall pick in 2022. Nemec was the 2nd overall pick in 2022.

Nemec will still have a ton of value.
Beat me to it

Nuke is damaged goods and will get hurt within a week after the TDL. He will then blow it yet again and not play in the playoffs.

Jack Han pulls out some old analysis of Seth Jones's defensive game. This is pretty old since, as you can see, he's still in a Lumbus uniform.

Now, one big flaw in this comparison with Jared Spurgeon is that both defensemen happen to be playing the same team, the Colorado Avalanche. BUT, Jones is mostly taking on Nathan MacKinnon on the rush, whereas Spurgeon is, for the most part, covering Val Nichushkin. Big difference there on gap control since Nathan MacKinnon, possibly more than any other player in the league, screws up a defenseman's gap control like crazy.

That said, I'm still not sold on Jones being the solution as a #3/4 for the Avs, I think there are some really big holes in his game that will only be exacerbated in the Colorado system. But I'm just one guy with one opinion.

Miller said that he will only wants to be traded to NYR. Too bad we missed on Panarin bread.
He also only wanted to play for NYR.

There was a story, that he would've been fine with a whole bunch of teams. The Avs were at the very top of his list. But, his then GF, now wife and mother of his children, wanted New York because she was still doing modelling and that was where she had better career opportunities obviously. Panarin later denied this, saying it was his choice only.

Whatever the case, doesn't really change it for the Avs. We are a destination because we have a good team, but not otherwise. That's the story for the majority of the league TBH. We've hear that a lot of players have removed Edmonton from their NTC:s after last year. Winning fixes all. But Edmonton is still not a destination city, it's a destination team. And sadly, that's also where the Avs are (though not as bad as Edmonton).

Eh, I'm not so sure I believe that. I recall him being very public about his desire to play for the Rangers, and I know he turned down a much better offer from the Islanders to sign with the other New York team.

I'm glad the Avs at least gave it a try with him and Miller, but they were never serious contenders for the services of those players.

In the end, it matters f*** all whether it was Panarin or his GF that made the choice, the fact is he didn't sign with us.

We are not a top destination. We are a destination because of MacKinnon and Makar, but not really for much else. That is the truth. We are kinda seen as being a cheap organization around the league. We will spend to the cap, yes. The facilities and other stuff? Not so much. Denver is not Florida, Vegas or New York. Taxes are not as low as they are in Dallas.

I'd go get Boeser. He might actually pair well with Mittelstadt. A shoot first winger to pair with a pass first(and 2nd, and 3rd) Center.

The only memorable experience in Denver is the diamond cabaret. I can see why Miller chose NY. Also have to hand it to Cmac, the guy continues to show hes got balls as large as the red rocks.

They don’t have any inside info, it’s all speculation.

They prefer Brayden Schenn over O’Reilly but think he would cost too much, so they’re suggesting keeping Mittelstadt and acquiring Ryan Donato from Chicago to center the third line.

Just tuned in for the Noah Cates talk, I would be happy with that.
