It's funny how, like, duclaire is absolutely last year's vatrano or whenever it was when we picked up vatrano for cheap. Same profiles same low cost. Drury 100% has to be in on that. SJ likely playing their hand to the last second to see if they can get a 2nd. I bet they will.

I think they’re hoping for a 3rd. Not many playoff teams want anything to do with him

Very simple. Your playoff roster has to have a total AAV of whatever the cap number is. How is that hard? If you add up all of the cap hits of your roster for the past season minus any retention by other teams, it can’t be more than whatever the cap was for the regular season.
It's not that simple.

If the cap is 100 mil and our cap hits total 99 mil for the 1st half of the season, we can then have 101 mil in cap hits for the 2nd half of the season.

Also keep in mind that without LTIR, we wouldn't be able to make any moves. Players on LTIR still count against the cap.

Intermission Kaplan

Connect Toffoli to Kings

Devils still trying on Markstrom, bare minimum a veteran goaltender tomorrow in a trade.

Buch she connected Rangers and Vegas, but more seemed like it was those teams missed on Guentzel.

They need another RW on this team and he had 13 points in 23 games with them the last time. I would prefer Buch and Eberle over him but he should not be discounted and he's having a pretty good season. I would not give up a 1st for him though.
If no first is involved fine. But if they trade a first I’ll be livid

If there’s a way to get talks going with Francis for Eberle that’s a route I’d take.

Other names are Foegele who could be a dump for the Oilers and of course Buch but I don’t think the Blues will move him.

Guys like Pacioretty, Duclair, Roslovic, Barbanov I’m not as interested in but as a last resort if they come cheap, they are worth a shot. Especially Duclair.

Zucker I’m slightly more interested than those above, his injury history concerns me but he can play. And you prob could get him for very little.

Vatrano Im not enamored with especially for the rumored price.

Toffoli could garner some interest but something about him (Devil) bothers me. Wouldn’t want to help Shero in any way.

I’d also look hard into Chychrun. If he wants out and is holding managements feet over the fire, gotta get in on that and not lose out on upgrading the D longterm

I’m probably missing a few

I hope so on the price. For a 3rd, worst case scenario, you just call it a wasted add if he turns out to be a scratched liability. Decent upside if he's playing for a contract.

That’s where I am. Grab a couple of lower key guys who you think may fit and move pieces around. Duclair and Okposo? Sure. Zucker and Barabanov? Okay

its depressing, should have sold high on kakko, our team has no shot at the cup and is boring to watch too
Sell high? How's that going to happen exactly when he was injured for close to 2 months and has 11 points this year? That would be the definition of selling low. Lets see how he does the rest of the year and in the playoffs. He scored 40 points last year. I still think he could be a 40-50 point guy who can play defense. That is not a bad asset to have.

Reaves (1.75) + Goodrow (3.64) + Nemeth (2.5) = 7.9 million

Buchnevich (5.8) + League minimum bum (750k) + league minimum bum (750k)= 7.3 million

The amount of popcorn I've had looking at Drury trying to climb out of the hole he made for himself his very first summer as a GM....

(Tbh I know people pooh the idea but to me it reeks of Sather coming in sitting down and telling Drury "Son, this is how it's done,..")

It's what you do in the present that will redeem the past and thereby change the future

Is “popcorn “ a euphemism?

Kakko finally has a center that is good 5v5, like legit good, since Chytil last season. He needs to stay. This postseason is make-or-break for him. Will be internal pressure bubbling up.

Could be used to help reshape the defense via trade, but you could never trade him for a rental. He's got 20 plus playoff games to redefine his season and earn a new contract.

Lindgren and a first for Chychrun.

Move Mika Trouba Goodrow in the offseason and use the return to go get a 1C or future 1C.

Kreider 1C Perrault
Panarin Trocheck Lafreniere
Othmann Chytil Kakko
Cuylle Brodz Vesey

Chychrun Fox
Miller Schneider
Gus Journeyman

I just don’t understand how anyone thinks that move was forced by the salary cap. 3 seconds of math can be done to disprove that

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that they moved Buch because they wanted another look/vibe whatever in the room. Sure Buch loved the guys but I don't think management were enamored with him. Again I know people disagree, but they moved him for peanuts because they were determined to move him.

no, it's because he's the exact fit this team needs to get over the hump. They dealt him because they were desperate to attain depth and make the playoffs, now they are a depth heavy team itching to get the cup.

Drury knows we have a Kreider/Zibanejad issue 5v5, who do we get to solve that issue? The guy that actually made Kreider and Zibanejad good 5v5. People might not like the idea of trading with St.Louis again, personally I don't care, he's the answer to this teams woes, and the locker-room deserves to feel good, they loved Pavel.
Doug and Chris have made some deals in recent time, get it done and give Doug his pick of the crop, we'll still have a solid prospect pool at the end of the day.
I’m not so sure. When Buch was here, zibby played a more aggressive style. The last few years he’s been a pass first type guy. The only time he lets it rip is on the man advantage.
He also doesn’t go into the high traffic areas as much as he used to.
His game has just adapted that way and it’s frustrating cause he’s built like a bull.

I still say Zetterlund is the best possible target at 2.4 mill and 24 years old. Should be here for 4-5 years and able to move anywhere in top 9 if needed….
Getting buch will also affect other decisions…
They can trade chytil. He’d be at a all time low value wise until he can stay healthy.

Buch would walk after next season. Not what we need for the assets it would cost to acquire.
I don’t get the obsession with Chychrun either. He will likely play 60 games and I don’t think he meshes good with fox tbh.
He’s also played on only losing teams…. He won’t be a PP qb here on 1st unit…..
if your replacing Lindgren, it better be with a guy that can skate and physically defend fox when others take shots at him.

The amount of People that want to dumb Lindgren at 25 after his last few seasons is shocking tbh….
I guarantee fox doesn’t think he sucks…
Reducing his role? Dropping him down, maybe sure??? But replacing him is harder then a lot of people think
