I am starting to wonder if some voters also feel pressure to vote for a certain amount of guys every year. I don't know. It's not just one factor leading to this. Some of these voters go on crusades to get a certain guy in. It's basically like a political whip. Then there is the popularity factor. We all agree that Curt Schilling is a giant POS but to me he should be in the HOF.
Why voters vote for 10 HOF in a given year is insane. I get Joe Mauer is a HOF'er because he is a catcher, but why does that logic not apply to a Jeff Kent at 2b? Why does a known steroid user in Gary Sheffield get 64% of the vote but Barry Bonds only get 66% in his final year when he was by far the best player in baseball for a long time?

Last year there was Rolen and Ortiz went in alone his year

I look at HOF like Red Sox LF

Williams level
Yastrzemski level
Rice level

You want an exclusive level you are Williams & Yaz

I also compare apples to apples

Mauer was a HOF catcher
Helton one of best first base man - I’d vote in
Beltre stats speak for self and actually his Red Sox year was what ignited

Guys like Mazerowski (I gotta have had 100 of his baseball cards) and Baines do not belong

Fun debate

Mayer rated 6 SS in new top 100

Anthony 10th OF

Teal 5th C

I am just stunned how they are operating

They can not be negotiating with Boras guy because that ahole would immediately tell Heyman

They better hope Devers didn’t here about Wendy’s new chicken wraps and those young players hit big time like Casas, Duran, and Bello

Still no contract discussions for Casas.

The bar has been drastically lowered and keeping the steroid guys out looks more and more stupid every year. Skinny Barry Bonds is a hall of famer by these standards before he touched the juice. Make him go in with a Pirates hat as punishment for juicing late.

I'm going to be pissed if Pedroia gets left out I get that he is on the fence but his stats blow out all the 2Bs already in and if Jeff Kent gets consideration with his awful D Pedroia belongs in with his Gold Gloves. Old hall of fame standards probably not misses out by a year or two new hall of fame 100% yes.

Mercado slide probably cost Pedroia 2000 hits and strong consideration

He’s better then several infielders in

I’d vote him in he has MVP ROY 4 GG 3 WS
Heart and soul of those teams

Never boring a character I want guys like that in

Can’t say he should get in either, but his top end seasons were about as good as any 2B in history, IIRC.

2008 for one.

In a 9 year stretch, Jeff Kent knocked in over 100 runs 8 times. 226 homers in that time, so over 25 a season. That would seem to be enough to get a second baseman into the Hall.

Baseball is a distant 4th sport for me. Even NHL struggles to get tv time since my wife is from Africa and is seriously good at basketball so NBA obsessed.

Went to a BU lax game last year and it was amazing season starts next week I’ve decided NCAA lacrosse will be my new favorite sport and focus drive in and go to every BU and Harvard game and stream games non stop bet on them etc. Just such a good product and so much fun to watch.

Baseball and hockey flip between #1 and #2 for me (Football #3). I am in a Sox #1 phase since about 2021. My daughter started playing softball and it kind of reintroduced me to how much I missed it. I mainly listen to games on the radio except for playoffs. Its just a good companion from April-September (assuming the Sox are still in it). Also I am not a huge fan of the NHL regular season product right now compared to 2009-2015. Just boring and going through the motions.

the lack of any moves is hilarious but looking at the current payroll:
trevor story @ 22.5m for 4 more years
yoshida @ 18m for 4 more years

nice complimentary players on a championship team but what a waste. I know they basically reset next year with no commitments beyond the two of them but how many years of devers prime are they going to lose?

And while you mentioned him, I consider Devers to be overrated.

Let me have it, Devers fans!

Im with you on Pedroia.

The double standard being applied is infuriating between him and Posey. There's this big moral push to put Posey in because a dirty play caused an injury that robbed him of playing years, well same happened to Pedroia with the Machado "slide".

It's even worse when you put them side by side and see they had as close to identical careers as you can:

Donnie Baseball probably should be in, but in fairness to this comparison the standards for catchers are waaaay different than first basemen.
Donnie had what 6 gold gloves.I get what your saying about catchers to & not dissing on Mauer its a beautiful honor.Just trying to show some comparable's not in.
