His opening press conference he got roasted by media and always was distrustful after

Felt bad for him but they and fans were very mean to this guy

Frog booty something or other statement
Hindsight he was a pretty good manager. Pedro could be a pain in the ass to deal with at that point in his career. The Red Sox didn't have the talent they had in WS winning teams and he did a good job getting everything out of those teams. He was doomed from the start with his name being Jimy with just the one m. This was an era of Red Sox baseball where fans were actually into the team on a daily basis. Where callers were lined up to bash the manager for a pitching decision or not pinch hitting/bunting. I wish we still had that passionate base.

Great days as a baseball fan - I remember as a kid how mad people were we traded for Luis Aparicio for fan favorite Mike Andrews. Then Aparicio went 0-40 and people would call in every night like it was Joe DiMaggio hit streak

Come on Montgomery tell Boras you figured out the streets around Boston and love the cafeteria at Boston College

Let’s go !!!!!
Are you on Montgomery because you see him as a staff ace, or are you on him because he's the best you think you can do? I just think he's gonna want 5+yrs at $20+mil and I just don't like those numbers. Especially when you have teams like NY sniffing around Blake Snell and Baltimore/Seattle looking to deal for Cease. You basically end up sinking $100mil in payroll and fall further behind your division/league rivals.

Honestly, I'm shocked that Boston isn't in on the Cease conversation. They've got the prospects to get it done, if they want to pull the trigger. He had a step back in 2023, but the White Sox were a dysfunctional shit-show. I think a change of scenery would make a huge difference for that guy.

Over the last three seasons, Montgomery and Cease are basically the same pitcher.

I have one distinct memory of Jimy Williams

Back in 1988, I was producing a baseball show that aired locally on Boston area cable. One night our host interviewed Jimy when he was managing the Jays and since Toronto played all their home games on Astroturf he asked Williams 'How does your team play on grass?' and he answered ' None of my players use grass'.

I am the cameraman and I knew what I had was gold. I left Fenway and went back to Somerville to make a copy and then drove to Allston and gave the tape to Lobel knowing he was doing Sports Spotlight that night and he used it.

A week later I am half asleep watching Letterman and Marv Albert comes on with his sports bloopers and the Williams clip appears. :biglaugh:

from cbssports.com:

If the Red Sox fail to re-sign Adam Duvall, they could turn to Garrett Cooper as a Plan B, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive. Cooper doesn't have as much defensive versatility as Duvall, but he does have experience at both first base and in the corner outfield.

CBS Sports recently highlighted Cooper as a solid candidate to have a bounce-back season:

You might think that we'd be out on this one. After all, Cooper is a 33-year-old right-right first baseman coming off a subpar season in which he swung and missed more than usual. Yet we do think there's evidence that he's in for a better 2024. His ball-tracking data, specifically his share of batted balls that had an exit velocity of 95 mph or higher and a launch angle between 10 and 30 degrees, put him in the vicinity of Luis Robert Jr., Jorge Polanco, and Zack Gelof, among others. In other words, batters who had more productive seasons. Cooper certainly wouldn't be the first of his kind to flame out before he reaches his mid-30s. We just think he deserves the opportunity to prove that he has more in the tank before we'll write him as such.

The Red Sox have been rumored to seeking a corner bat with power all winter.

Similar to the famous Tug McGraw quote. When asked what he prefered, grass or Astroturf, Tug said, "I don't know, I never smoked Astroturf".

One is 3 years younger and a hell of a lot cheaper over the next 2 years. Cease also has waaaay more upside. There’s an opportunity to get him for less than you would have had to pay last season, and you don’t have to lock him down for 5+ years if you don’t want to.

Yeah, you have to give up prospects, but I’d make that move if I’m Boston and pocket the $10+mil savings to make a big offer for Burnes next year. Burnes is probably gonna get $35mil/yr. Maybe more.

I think he’s a bulldog and solid 2-3

Cease yes but they would want one of top 3

It is tough to say who the White Sox would want for Cease. They wouldn't need Mayer since they have Colson Montgomery. Leaves you with Anthony and Teel, maybe Rafaela+. I hate how unpredictable MLB prospects are.

Turner, good guy, good hitter, didn't have a position and the Sox need to leave open DH for Masa Yoshida or perhaps a Soler.
