What a world when Jeremy Jacobs & Delaware North is only the third-most unlikable ownership group in Boston

John Henry and Tom Werner become such tightwads that they have made ol' Montgomery Burns and Smithers over at TD Garden look good by comparison. What's the world coming to?

Chaim absolutely deserved to be fired (sorry Jeff Passan).

But now we have a management AND ownership problem. Maybe you can get by if one of those areas is lacking. But not both.

I have to look into Mauer's case closer, but I really can't see one for Posada.
Only knock on Mauer was that he was a contact hitter, and didn't hit for a ton of power. That said, he still had a career OPS of .827, was a great defensive catcher, and an MVP winner.

Not a lot of catchers out there with an MVP on their resume. Posey is the only other one who's done it in the last 25yrs..

I am not into that HoF-stuff, but how in the world did Joe Mauer get in? I always thought of him as a great player, but not elite. In a sort of way like Dustin Pedroia. Both on similar career paths, but Mauer just happened to be more healthy at the end of their respective careers.

WAR peak (10 years):
Pedroia - 44,8
Mauer - 46,6

Pretty much the same player (both won the MVP award, perennial gold glovers, similar career AVG, same career SLG). Mauer at the more important position, but Pedroia won a WS during his peak as a milestone.

We will see when Pedroia is on the ballot next year. CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Felix Hernandez and Ian Kinsler join him.

Pedroia was pacing for it but effectively retiring at 33 will probably keep him out. I think Machado cost him the HOF, sadly.

Chase Utley is the only second baseman of his generation getting in. Pedey's career got cut short and Cano has roid stank.

I hate Manny Machado.

It will be interesting to see how many votes he does get next year.

Looking for a little more positivity... the computers seem to like the Red Sox a little more than most fans. Fangraphs has them finishing at 82-80.

Also, ESPN.com names the Red Sox as their #1 candidate to be a "breakout team" this year. They define a "breakout team" as one that finishes with a losing record one season and improve their record by 10 or more games and finishes with a winning record the following season.

The Red Sox rank highly in their study based on the fact that they've improved their winning percentage at the minor league levels for three consecutive years. Teams that fit that criteria are more likely to have a "breakout" at the major league level in Year 4.

Posada lol

Mauer was probably the best catcher in baseball over a 7-8 year period where he won 3 batting titles and an MVP to go along with gold gloves

Mauer won 3 batting titles.

Only 29 players in history have done that.
