Jays going for quantity over quality. Acquire 10 no name prospects hoping 1 will hit it.
What return are you expecting for someone like Pearson?
Of note regarding the Pearson trade….he wasn’t expiring, had team control.
Maybe it’s just a roll of the dice, or maybe it signals that more guys are on the table than originally expected.
A bit odd to sell a controllable arm - especially a power one - since the cupboards aren’t exactly full.
Wonder who’s next.

Dear god, nobody is giving you a top prospect for Nate Pearson or half a season of Yimi Garcia who just came back from the IL with an elbow injury.
Top prospects are only traded for star players.

- Reliever who gives up tons of HR's and doesn't strand baserunners

People REALLY need to adjust their expectations for what kind of returns the Blue Jays players will get. You only get incredible returns for star-level players.

Nate pearson is worth a bag of baseballs. The return is what you would expect for a guy that serves taters.
Pearson has one of the flattest fastballs I've ever seen. Hitters at this level aren't going to miss high 90s fastball with no movement.
You would pretty much have to completely overhaul his mechanics and arm slot if you want to get some movement on his fastball.

There's a reason why you don't trade Pearsons. They got a potential 4th OF and a potential backup IF (both of which can be claimed on waivers most springs).

To be fair there is a difference between going for all athletic players out of highschool vs. ones who are in full season MiLB ball. But still, gut this front office. What have they done to show they know what they are even acquiring? Only things they hit on were with AA's scouting staff.

They have likely tried everything they can with him. He is almost out of options which means he pretty much has to stay on your MLB roster. Except he pitches like a potato, so he really shouldn't be on the roster at all.
So your brilliant idea is to what? Have him continue to get shelled at the MLB level in the off-chance that he magically learns how to pitch next season?
The "point" here is that if you keep him you are running a legitimate risk of DFA'ing him next season and getting nothing. This is a player that needs a fresh start somewhere else - he isn't figuring anything out here. He likely won't figure anything out with the Cubs either.
I'm dying here. Oh you can just claim backup OF's and IF's off waivers? Do you think there is a shortage of hard-throwing crap relievers or something? You realize they can do the same thing and easily land some other team's "Nate Pearson", right? A 28 year old pitcher with a negative career WAR LOL.

Yeah I got no issues with it, better to clear the roster spot and add some lottery tickets at this point. We need a reset here.

Rivera and Pinango were the 23rd and 29th best prospects for the Cubs, respectively. Pretty much what one would expect to get for Pearson.
He's minor league eligible meaning that he could have been AAA depth and a better callup than what they now have.
He's a better Trent Thornton whom the Jays kept until they couldn't.
It's not like the farm is missing these pieces. There is at least 1 of each at every single level.
