Thomas Harley is likely going to cost $4 million plus. He's not coming in around $3 million.

Evan Bouchard: 2 years X $3.9 million
Filip Hronek: 3 years X $4.4 million
Noah Dobson: 3 years X $4 million
K'Andre Miller: 2 years X $3.872 million
Bowen Byram: 2 years X $3.85 million
my broter disappeared for most of the playoff run but it looks like your offszn spreadsheet is locked n loaded for speculation

If we signed Tanev and Pesce/Roy/So on, what kinda space would we have left for a forward? Ehlers would be a fantastic get.
I would trade Marchment and give Matej Blumel a shot on the second line.

I would also trade Jason Robertson for Brady Tkachuk. Stars need to get bigger.

Tkachuk-Hintz-Bourque
Blumel-Johnston-Stankoven

Matej Blumel requires waivers, and my guess is they see him more as a Craig Smith replacement than a Marchment replacement.

The 4th line seems like it'll be a combination of Steel, Dadonov, Dellandrea, and Blumel. Faksa is obviously in that mix if they don't get rid of him/can't get rid of him.

Blumel is an AHLer
I don't think he's a Top 6 forward, but he can kill penalties. It would be a waste to not see if he could be a depth scoring option which they haven't tried yet.

He wasn't riding Stankoven or Bourque's coattails last year. He was producing on a line of his own where he was the driving force.

Bottom 6 forward isn't a stretch for a guy like him.

Meh, I'm not seeing it. I'd be happy to be wrong though.

The good thing is he'll cost next to nothing. Dallas basically signs all of their unproven AHL guys to league minimum deals with a bump in the AHL.

I think I actually disagree. I can't believe I am saying this but I would rather have Suter for one more year over Faksa, and that is because of the blueline question marks this off season.

Of course I have no idea what Nill has planned for the blueline, or what he will actually be able to do.

But no Jani, Bichsel may be raw, Nils could end up in the shadow realm, etc makes me wonder if Suter being around one more year might not be so bad. And for the most part this season, he was totally fine. Again, I am puking in my mouth saying that don't @ me

Marchment and Tkachuk are a wash when it comes to size. Then Robertson is one of the bigger forwards. So they'd be getting smaller.

Yeah that's rough, I want them both gone.

Yeah, I wrote somewhere about the comparables too and if it’s a bridge contract, it is going to land in the 4,6-4,8% of the salary cap.

But here's an option Nill should try: tell Suter now that going into next season he'll be the team's #7 guy with the belief he'd play ~20 games and likely not be in the playoff lineup barring injury. See if that gets Suter to retire to open up the possibility of getting rid of both Faksa and Suter.

My worry is I get the feeling (no source but my gut) that part of the handshake agreement Nill made with Suter is Suter would never be scratched because Suter wants to hit 1,500 games played.

I was told that at the deadline we could have moved Faksa but it would have cost us a high pick. So I imagine that's why they are linked.
Probably the idea is buying out one or the other makes sense for the cap but not both because then the combined dead cap hit exceeds replacement cost.

I see. I would probably rather keep Suter in a vacuum. But I’d rather pay cap space to remove Suter than pay a high pick to remove Faksa.

Yeah, if it's one or the other, I'll keep Faksa because it's easier to hide Faksa with limited minutes or scratches. Suter will never be scratched, so having him on the roster means he plays.

A little update:

IF we buyout Suter, Faksa won't be moved...
Don’t know how you improve the team then. If you keep Tanev/most of the ufas outside of Hak and Duchene, the money gets pretty hairy without both buying out Suter and trading Faksa.

I would not say marchment and Tkachuk is a wash. Yes, they are the same size but Brady uses his size to impose his will. He gets close to 300 hits a year. Mason is around 100. Brady is a younger and more talented Benn.

Didn't it come out that the Brady Tkachuk trade rumors were entirely false?

Their GM said they were false. But where there is smoke there is fire. He would be an idiot to trade him. You build a team around Brady not trade him.
