Should it come to that, I think that Mitts (extended) + Ritchie + 1st would get the Avs Crosby.

But that’s a lot of the Avs’ future to give up for a 37 (in August) Crosby and the trade would most likely have to be made during the draft.

Sid has a full NMC. If he only wants to go to the Avs, there's no way CMac will give up that much for him. Nor should he.

People, Sid isn't coming to Colorado. I would love it, but he's going to retire a Penguin. He probably doesn't re-sign next Summer if the Penguins are going to rebuild and likely just calls it a career. He has nothing to chase, he can't win any major awards anymore. MAYBE he re-signs for 1 more season just so he can play in the Olympics but otherwise? He's a Penguin for life and then retiring.

With the moves the Avs made, I'm starting to think that there's a decent chance Landy will come back for the playoffs and then LTIRetire unless he's 100% back healthy and doesn't need more rehab in the summer.

Agreed, but I think that it would still take at least two of those plus something smaller and salary would need to go out.

Sid isn’t going to screw Pittsburgh over just cause he can.

Maybe something like Mitts + 1st + Behrens?

I have a feeling next year will be Sid's farewell tour to the league. I just can't imagine a scenario where Crosby requests a trade. Also, I cannot think of one reason why Crosby would want to reup with Dubas in control.

I agree. The only way I can see it happening is if he doesn't re-sgin when his window opens this summer, and goes into next season as a UFA. They (Pittsburgh) end up in a similar situation next year at the deadline, and he asked to be traded to Colorado. However, I think he'll sign an extension this summer, and end any chance of that ever happening.

Mitts better be good

No one here is doubting his offensive ability, the problem is drafting a top-heavy defenceman in the top 5, you'd want a little more impactfulness than that IMHO.
3 really solid prospects. Ponomarev has flaws that I think keeps him from being an impact guy, but there are big fans of his out there.

The conditions on the first are too strict. That’s probably the worse part. This is like 3 Behrens level guys and a conditional first. Dubas is taking the chance that one hits and is impact… two are NHLers (including the pick in that). Narrow window.
I quite like Ponomarev, a complete engine with wonderful mobility, stickhander, and a two-way centre. I think he could become another Willian Karlsson.
That probably how he got the third prospect. Not great though. The difference is basically 31-49, but still.
Wheeler labels them as Canes 6th, 7th, and 9th prospect IIRCs. Not saying I agree, but that's his take, Carolina is the team I would have wanted to trade for when it comes to prospects. Very depth pool, top 3-5 for me easily even if the top-end talent isn't exactly there. They've gone after some high-risk, high-reward Kucherov and Hintz-esque players in the past 2-3 years though.
I don’t understand Pittsburgh.

The roster needs to be ‘Old Yellered’, but they try to stay somewhat afloat. It’s just weird.
Supposedly Pittsburgh wants prospects who are close to making the NHL, so they can supplement them with the old core. Remember, Fenway owns Liverpool FC, they haven't fired anybody in like 20 years it feels like (though they've been very successful over that time, I reckon that Dubas will get a very, very long leash).
Seems like an awful trade for Pit
These types of trades actually, sort of work out. I remember all the bad PR stuff for us tended to be pretty solid in the end.

Crosby is such a fierce competitor that I just don’t see him retiring with the way that he’s still producing. He’s always taken care of his body and I could easily see him play until his early 40’s.

He still has a bunch left in the tank and teaming up with one of his best buddies, and another hometown legend, to join a stacked team to go for one last run could be tremendously appealing to him.

It’s not like he needs it, but it would add an awful lot to his legacy. It would also allow him to play in another Olympics (which haven’t occurred in a long time).

The alternative is seeing the rest of his storied career rot away in Pittsburgh.

I 100% believe that Dubas has a plan and vision in his mind, the problem is that I don't think he's as good as he thinks he is. I totally expect him to rebuild/retool the Penguins into a good team though, he's definitely has a solid mind, just overrated. Would not want him here, Avs dodged a bullet there.

Guentzel going to Carolina and staying east...? Probably the best outcome for the AVS.... :)
