I’m trying to watch more OHL games to try to figure out how I feel about Dickinson vs Mews vs Parekh.

I’ve only seen a handful of games from them so far. Small sample. I’ve liked Mews the least. Parekh I’ve liked more but doesn’t seem like a BA pick to me. Dickinson I haven’t liked as much as I want to and he’s LD which hurts him a little. I think I’m going to have to watch these three pretty exclusively here for a little while to get my head wrapped around it.

Yakemchuk I’ve got 10 miles ahead of Elick. Not even close.

I like the tidbits I've seen of Mews, he's my favorite of the 5 thus far. If I could buy the time to watch actual games of these guys I'd be pretty happy, for now I need to settle with clips between jobs or at night before bed.

I haven’t liked him as much as Yakemchuk, Dickinson, or Parekh. Definitely more than Elick.

With Pronman’s preliminary 33 out, Scouch released his list that averages a bunch of media scout rankings.

As for Pronman’s list:

  1. Celebrini
  2. Silayev
  3. Eiserman
  4. Levshunov
  5. Demidov
  6. Yakemchuk
  7. Catton
  8. Jiricek
  9. Dickinson
  10. Lindstrom
  11. Helenius
  12. Parekh

Where does he have Ryder Ritchie? I don't have an account.
Did you hear Leah attempt to pronounce your X handle on the podcast last night?

I would love to get any one of Silayev, Levshunov, Jiricek or Yakemchuk but this Pronman ranking makes it seem like even that flexible goal would be hard to reach.

If you have an iPhone and you have Twitter then you can see Athletic content for free. DM me and I’ll tell you how.

Anyway, I think I can at least post how he ranks the WHL:

  1. Yakemchuk (6)
  2. Catton (7)
  3. Lindstrom (10)
  4. Elick (13)
  5. Jecho (26)
  6. Ritchie (28)
  7. Howe (30)

I’d probably drop Elick 10 spots and raise Ritchie and Howe up 10 spots. I’d also flip Yakemchuk and Catton. And I’d be pretty satisfied with that.

Here’s how he ranks the D:

  1. Silayev
  2. Levshunov
  3. Yakemchuk
  4. Jiricek
  5. Dickinson
  6. Parekh
  7. Elick
  8. Buium
  9. Shuravin
  10. Kiviharju
  11. Hutson
  12. Emery
  13. Badinka
  14. Wallenius
  15. Mews
  16. Skahan

I’d be cool with any of those first six D without first pick. I think at least one will be there.

Parekh doesn't have the size that Bill fetishizes.

Dickinson plays the left side and we already have Valimaki, Moser, Duda and Simashev who prefer that side.

Those are weak complaints and what matters most is getting the best guy. It's just too early in the season for me to have any clue who's best among the 10-16 crowd.

I took Bob’s list, and Pronman’s and Steven Ellis from Daily Faceoff (who I really like). I averaged their rankings and assigned 50 to anyone not ranked on a particular list. I filtered out everyone not featured on at least two lists. Here’s what I got:

1. Celebrini
2. Eiserman
3. Demidov
4. Levshunov
5. Silayev
6. Catton
7. Dickinson
8. Jiricek
9. Helenius
10. Yakemchuk
11. Kiviharju
12. Parekh
13. Chernyshov
14. Brandsegg-Nygard
15. Elick
16. Connelly
17. Hutson
18. Lindstrom
19. Mews
20. Buium
21. Boisvert
22. Sennecke
23. Ritchie
24. Masse
25. Howe

Parekh reminds me of Durzi with a bigger shot. BA was happy enough to trade for Durzi.

True about Dickinson being LD. Also think he’s unlikely to fall past 6th-8th.

So how deep is this draft? I know we do great finding decent prospects in the later rounds, but overall, how deep is the draft?
Nobody can say on Nov 1st.

What about Nov 2nd?
Deflection deserves a dumb remark. I asked to gage the early consensus. At no time will I hold you to it! Afterall I have seen you change your mind several times including between the concubine and the draft. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't respect your opinion and others that frequent forum 40 and I have a limited resources to do my own research.

It’s like asking “is this a really heated playoff race in the NHL?” Not sure yet. Hard to say.

I would have to defer to the real experts on this and as far as I know they haven’t categorized the depth in this manner in a public way. Not yet anyway. Not that I’ve seen.

As someone who’s watched every draft since 1996 and been a very active member do the “Hockey’s Future” community of draft and prospects enthusiasts since 2004, I would say this feels very much like a “standard” type of draft class.

my take based on what I've seen. I like several of the D that are likely going to go top 10. Probably at least 3-4 that are great fits for what AZ is likely targeting. I think I could come up with a list of 15 names pretty easy today of guys that I would be happy with. There are some smaller D that are good but possibly not a fit as we try to figure out if the D size bias is firm with BA's group.

We currently have the 17th worst P%. Last season, we’d have been 13th in the lottery order. And the season before that 15th. So if we maintain this level, I’d say we should be looking at kids ranked 13th-17th rather than kids ranked 8th-12th.

Obviously it’s still early. But as lists come out and we focus our eyes on specific zones of the draft, might be a good to check out one segment later than we usually have to look.

Here are 10 names…

Carter Yakemchuk (RD) WHL
Cayden Lindstrom (C) WHL
Zayne Parekh (RD) OHL
Dean Letourneau (C) HS
Yegor Surin (C) KHL
Matvei Shuravin (LD) KHL
EJ Emery (RD) NTDP
Will Skahan (LD) NTDP
Henry Mews (RD) OHL
Charlie Elick (RD) WHL

I haven’t seen Letourneau or Surin that early but I suspect both might be on Arizona’s radar in particular. I added Mews and Elick but I’m starting to sour on both. I really don’t love the production of Emery or Skahan but they certainly match the profile. Same with Shuravin, honestly.

There are wingers in that range that I think would be BPA over quite a few of those C & D. Chernyshov, Brandsegg-Nygard, and Ryder Ritchie to name a few. I don’t love taking another winger but if it’s between them and a big stay at home D with limited upside…?

A couple of guys I don’t have a good feel for because I’ve got no access to USHL or NCAA game are Zeev Buium(LD) and Sacha Boisvert(C). Buium is getting good minutes at a top program in DU and he appears to have had a growth spurt and is now up over 6ft. Boisvert is a long and lanky listed 6’2 (probably 6’3) center with a deadly shot.

Am I gonna have to buy Flo Hockey TV to see Boisvert, Hage, Connelly, and the NTDP kids?
