This is the type of player we need to begin injecting into the prospect pool. I feel like Cooley is maybe the only true risk taker we have that has top end talent. Obviously all players take risk from time to time but you know what I mean.Really loving Yakemchuk’s first couple of games this season. Picking right back up where he left off last season. Kid has to play over 30mins per night. Crazy. Top pair, PP1, PK1, all situations. 6’3 RD, offensive defenseman who loves to throw hits and mix it up physically. Always yapping and in the center of every scrum.
Plays a lot like a fifth forward offensively and in transition. Big gambler. But I do love that when he’s in the zone defending, he takes care of the house. Big, strong and solid against established possession in the zone. Good penalty killer for that reason. Obviously a leader on the team, too.
He was 13th on Bob McKenzie’s pre-season scouting poll. Could be right in our range. He’s really old for his draft year so could be ready sooner.
That could be a benefit to us. The AHL squad is starting to lack a little bit of high end talent. I think it's important to keep that club competitive and while I disagree with the current coaching regime's philosophy, that can change quickly. We are in a unique spot where our AHL squad is not only in the same state (country for that matter), it's a two hour drive. We need to take advantage of that style pipeline more than we do.Yes.
Interesting.Yes.
Difference of course being freezing occurs with *less* energy. But point taken. As water cools off, it turns to ice rather suddenly at 0 degrees centigrade. This reflects the Coyotes… they have been getting closer and closer to freezing into a very good team; the draft picks and other acquisitions and hires are like molecules getting closer and closer… soon, freezing will occur.
Strong chance Szuber turns pro next season as well. BA will have so much cap available with potentially 6 players on ELCs and Little/Vora coming off LTIR. Hoping he can land a veteran top pairing D man next off season to provide stability, otherwise I could see us taking a step back next year.Interesting.
Assuming Geekie and Lamoureux turn pro after this season, we could see Yakemchuk (if drafted) and Simashev and But the season after.

Given our lack of quality on D outside of Simashev (top pair potential), I'd take Jiricek & Silayev, but both will go inside top 10, which will be outside our range.Who has early favorites in our range? Let’s be optimists and exclude Bob McKenzies preliminary top 6 (Celebrini, Eiserman, Demidov, Levshunov, Dickinson and Catton).
For me, I really like RD Jiricek (8th), RD Silayev (9th), LW Chernyshov (12th), RD Yakemchuk (13th), RW Brandsegg-Nygard (15th), C Lindstrom (19th) and C Letourneau (NR) as options for us.
Looking forward to watching more Perekh, Mews and Elick this weekend.
How about y’all?
I think Jiricek becomes a top 5 pick by seasons end (basing that on nothing but gut feeling) but he’s my pick. Would take our D pool from okay to really good instantly.Who has early favorites in our range? I guess the phase "turn[ing] pro" would be the confusion. I assumed you meant NHL, given he is already playing in the DEL, which is a professional hockey league.Szuber will be in the AHL this season I believe.
Too early for me. I need to see how the CHL teams play when the prospects are back from camps.Who has early favorites in our range? Let’s be optimists and exclude Bob McKenzies preliminary top 6 (Celebrini, Eiserman, Demidov, Levshunov, Dickinson and Catton).

Larionov compares Silayev to a young Borje Salming with his heart, his qualities as a skater and his shot. Larionov is trying to mold him into that type of player.
Larionov adds that they invited him for a practice last year, which was the first time he saw him, and immediately Larionov told himself ''He is one heck of a player.''
Very happy to draft a kid and let larionov develop him. What a shame Fedotov isn’t there any longer.Just watched Silayev's shifts from his last couple games. Honestly he is playing exactly how I was hoping to see Simashev play. Big, smooth, willing to use his body, gets his shot off (close to 50% success rate getting to the net... 22 on 55 attempts) and his first pass moving the puck up has been really solid. I just wouldn't consider him a QB at this point though.
Larionov has that whole team playing great hockey, their passing and control is VERY impressive. The fact that he is trusting a 17 year old so much on this team and has them playing so well will likely be amazing for his development too.
I need to watch more Spokane games.Berkly Catton’s last 11gp 13g 14a 27p

Mews at this point. Masse might end up a favorite, too. Hage could also end up someone I'd love to have.Who has early favorites in our range? Let’s be optimists and exclude Bob McKenzies preliminary top 6 (Celebrini, Eiserman, Demidov, Levshunov, Dickinson and Catton).

He's probably the most intriguing forward to me as far as potential risers go.Berkly Catton’s last 11gp 13g 14a 27p

With Celebrini not playing because of his shoulder and then being tossed right into his first D1 action, I could see an adjustment period. Demidov isn’t getting minutes in the KHL. Eiserman is awesome but he’s a goal scoring winger. All of that’s to say, Catton has a path to the top if he keeps his momentum rolling. It’s very early but you never know. He's probably the most intriguing forward to me as far as potential risers go.
