Yeah, that's probably the only thing keeping me from getting excited about him. He profiles like Smith or Eklund. No matter what, I think that precludes Grier from picking him, certainly in the top 5, and probably at 11-15ish also.
If Catton were available at the Pens pick and we passed on him I would be apoplectic to be honest.

Pens pick is now likely to be owned by Pens
It's more likely, but they still have to be outperformed by two of the flames, wild, NJ, BUF. not guaranteed that that happens.

It would be a head scratcher, but I'm guessing he's picked up by the Habs or I dunno, maybe MIN.

I think Columbus, Buffalo, and Montreal would all be good fits for Catton in the range I think he could go in.

I think we have to root against New Jersey and Minnesota for the optimal Pens’ pick to occur.

Upside is All-Star C in the Jack Hughes mold. Downside is decent top-9 winger for a few years like Labanc.

I’m less concerned about Catton’s size than the fact that he plays tons of minutes in all situations with absolutely no talent around him. He didn’t show well at the Top Prospects Game, and though that doesn’t mean all that much it did strengthen my concern. Guys who are used to doing it all in juniors sometimes struggle to adjust to playing in an NHL system. But Catton is crazy talented. If we hadn’t drafted a similar guy in Smith last year I might be fully on the Catton train.
Size is a minor concern, but a major concern is he doesn't use teammates well, and other players have had more team success with less talent. It does seem like he sacrifices team success for personal success a bit, and how that translates is difficult to assess.

I'd put his base case as someone like Ryan Strome, where he needs to play with talented players but you aren't winning anything with him as a 2C.

I’d put his expected outcome as Ryan Strome. I think his upside is quite a bit higher.

Looks so good:thumbu::thumbu:

Edstrom is thought of as a top 6 center. Is he locked in at C or can he play W? I’m asking because I guess I’m wondering if Edstroms addition potentially bump Smith to wing If we get Celebrini and he’s our 1st line center?

I think he's more like a 3C. Grier is building a pipeline to a dominant, big 3C (Bystedt, Edstrom, Lund). Obviously wants that kind of player and is taking multiple shots on goal for one.

I'd Grier is a believer in icing a shutdown 3rd line, then he just landed a key piece. Hopefully we land the 1oa and then we can move Bystedt to LW.

You just know after today that we're going to end up drafting 3rd behind Chicago and like Ottawa or something and then will take Eiserman because he's the most Massachusetts prospect possible. And then trade down from the Pens pick to the late stages of the 1st round to take a big physical D who's an iffy skater because Tim Burke loves him some grindy pylons.

Because that would be the Sharkiest thing that could happen.

I feel like that’s Old Sharks drafting. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Grier’s team’s drafting so far.

Also, we’re f***ing getting Celebrini, dammit. WE DESERVE SOME HAPPINESS
