I can’t verify that but it doesn’t sound right, there being no limits on buyouts, if I’m wrong, my apologies.
You're thinking of either retained salary, which is limited to three contracts per year, or compliance buyouts, which were limited to two (and which are not relevant to today anyway).

Corey Pronman's new top 10:
1. Celebrini
2. SILAYEV
3. Eiserman
4. Levshunov
5. Demidov
6. Yakemchuk
7. Catton
8. Jiricek
9. Dickinson
10. Lindstrom

5 D in the top 10. And lots of movement from other rankings.

Might even hope PIT gets like 8OA and lets us keep the pick, if they understand they may really suck in 2025... That said you likely don't hire Dubas to rebuild. Or maybe you do. Who knows.

Not sure what they are doing with the pick (my guess is they wont give up the pick because that is publicly admitting to trying to suck next year), but they did hire Dubas to rebuild. He was given a 7 year contract so pretty clear plan is to go for it now, then let Dubas build it back up.

Yeah I don't see how PIT doesn't keep the pick if it's top-10. They'll almost certainly aim to be better next year. Look at OTT in 2018, they chose Tkachuk 4th overall giving COL their next years 1st, in which they finished dead last (but dropped to 4th after the lottery).

Would be an awesome outcome, and yes, I think you're right. If they are top 10 and/or win the lottery for 1 or 2, they'll keep it, and we just have to hope the team implodes like the 2020-21 sharks.

Pitt will just kick the can down the road more. The team will always just take the guaranteed top 10 pick. Funny that it could end up looking like SJ's trade for EK only the pick is protected because everyone saw the DW fail

They can play any of the seven or eight guys active on the NHL roster on defense and it'd yield the same results so we don't even need Pickles to tank. I just want to get rid of his cap hit as quickly as possible. lol

At this point we’re gonna have to pay his cap hit one way or another. Why not have him play in all situations and a ton of minutes? It’s not like we can get worse. Plus there’s a 0.0000000000000000000000001% chance he suddenly becomes awesome or decides to retire

Because everyone else either stands to benefit from the experience or could be traded. Granted, the trade group doesn't have any actual value at this stage but they're reasonable throw-ins to balance trades out for contracts like MacDonald was. Benning, Burroughs, Knyzhov, Rutta, and Ferraro can all be traded. Muk, Thrun, Okhotiuk, and Emberson can all use the experience. I'd honestly just send Vlasic home for the rest of his contract lol

I imagine 44 would come to work every day for the next 3 years even as a healthy scratch. A normal person would feel like shit and retire haha but not this guy

A normal person would happily come to work and collect Vlasic's paycheck for three years, including sitting the press box for 82 games.
The team isnt competetive so I dont care what he does at this point. Hes given enough to this club to earn that right. So you're not wrong

We can just buy Vlasic out. The cap hit isn't bad, especially for a rebuilding team whose really expensive prospects won't be getting raises until after the cap hit penalty expires.
Why bother? We don't need the cap space over the next few years and may need it down the line. If Vlassic is outplayed then just send him down to the minors or send him to the press box to get him off the books as soon as possible.

We won't need the cap space in the next four years anyway - Eklund is likely the only player who might be due for a nice raise during that time, given I expect Smith and our pick this year to need another year in college (maybe even if it's Celebrini), but this organization does seem unwilling to actually bench or waive Vlasic (which they should do - just waive him and tell him to go home, he won't and shouldn't be getting another game), hence the buyout (the "respectable" move).

It doesn't really matter either way - there are marginal benefits in each direction (cap space, contract space, playing time, "respect," etc). The answer should be to simply get rid of Vlasic so that we never have to see his decayed husk of a corpse of a career on the ice ever again.

They have benched him already this year. You don’t waive a guy like vlassic until it is obvious to everyone involved that he can’t cut it in the NHL anymore. Vlassic has played more games for the Sharks than any defenseman.

Players pay attention to how teams treat their players and it will not look good if the Sharks waive Vlassic to other players in the league. A teams reputation does matter even though fans think it doesn’t. Just look how hard Vegas pushed to prove they didn’t do “wrong” by a player. That is why it has to be completely obvious to everyone that he is worse than 7d before they waive Vlassic. It’s not there yet so even just benching him will start to send the message.

Forget the battle for the top of the standings, we've got some brutal competition down in the basement. Having to fend off Chicago, Edmonton AND Pittsburgh? I guess the silver lining is that we get Pitt's unprotected pick next year. Better hope at least Edmonton puts it together.

It has yet to hurt Vegas and I promise you they would have waived his ass two years ago
