I can’t verify that but it doesn’t sound right, there being no limits on buyouts, if I’m wrong, my apologies.

I think regular buyouts can only happen in a time window. Somebody smarter that me can fill in the details.

Compliance buyouts are limited and are rare as hen's teeth right now. It sounds like that will continue with the forecasted salary cap increase coming.

The only options the Sharks have is to trade or waive Vlasic to move him down to the NHL. Iirc, his NMC has expired this season. Nobody is going to claim Vlasic unless they can get him at league minimum.

Vlasic is an over-hyped darling of DW, along with Martin Jones. But unlike Vlasic where he didn't age well, shrinking pads did Martin in, imo. If the rules governing goalie pad sizes didn't change, I suspect Sharks would still have Martin as the starting goalie.

This is a very good article re: options with Vlasic.
The most likely option if they view Vlasic as finished is to buy him out. While it extends dead cap by a year, it's only 1.3 mil which I think is acceptable even if the team is on the rise. I'd still prefer to eat it and be done with it after another two seasons but I wouldn't mind them going the buyout route either.

I wouldn't rule out LTIR - its more real dollars but Hasso isn't exactly poor. Vlasic gets his money, Sharks don't lose cap space.

We're not going to spend enough for LTIR to be useful. Waiving Vlasic and assigning him to the Barracuda is probably the optimal strategy but I can understand eating the buyout penalty so that Vlasic is not still lingering around the org.

It has yet to hurt Vegas and I promise you they would have waived his ass two years ago
Being in a very desirable location for young millionaires plus no state income tax allows Vegas to treat players differently and not have it affect other players desire to play there.

Eh I think some doctor can find a reason he can't play if that is what both sides want. Paid retirement.
They only need that if they expect to use his cap space. I can't imagine that they will after a year like this that should make pretty damn clear how far off they really are and what sort of commitment it's going to take to get back to where they want to be.

I can't help but remember when at the start of the season some people were concerned that the team was too good to not get a top pick this year. Looks like we don't need to worry about that.
The injuries from last season catching up to us helped. Felt like there really wasn’t a key player that missed more than a game or two. Now you got 3 top 6 forwards and arguably our top Dman missing time already 10 games in.

I don't have a place to put this really, and don't want to put it on the Pens board because I haven't been over there yet (something I should've done months ago), so I'll go off on it here:

Karlsson was +5 tonight but did absolutely nothing on three of the goals. On Smith's second goal and Guentzel's first he had just come onto the ice. Last season, there were a few times where he made the play up ice then got off after the goal was scored so didn't get the plus - I think on one or two he actually got an assist but not the plus. Gee, who knew that playing with forwards that can score at a good clip would result in being on the ice for more goals for.

All of this to add to why plus minus is a very flawed stat (the biggest being that ENG count towards it). Also, I firmly believe, especially more so after watching him for 10 games as a Penguin, that if he played most of his career on good teams with players that can create goals for themselves often like Crosby and Malkin, there is no chance in hell he is a career minus player. But besides that, his actual career plus minus is around -50 when ignoring all empty netters for and against. Last year he was -26 but actually -10 and he was an actual plus basically up until Meier left when the team fell apart completely.

I mean, he also took a penalty when Marc Edouard Vlasic (!!!) Beat him on a breakaway. Plus minus may be a bad stat, but the scouting reports are right that Karl is a historically good offensive defenseman and worse than average at defense, at best.

Yep. Team quality massively affects +/-

Anyone know much about this kid? 6'5" 200 pound center with 14 goals and 25 points in 18 WHL games so far. I wonder if he's just another Conor Geekie or something special.

According to Elite prospects site, he is ranked as of now early to late 20's.

I think those rankings are from before the season started. EP ranked him 4th in their latest rankings a few days ago and I think Pronman had him 10th last week.
