Is Connolly a no draft cause of the picture he posted? Or a different reason?
There was a whole Athletic article about him, his history, and reputation among ex teammates and their families and ex coaches. Basically on one side you have the picture incident and a guy who has moved schools and teams a huge amount and a bunch of whispers about him being a jerk, and on the other you have him and his family and some coaches saying he's grown a lot, he got bullied, he's learned a lot, and he's a good kid who just wants to win. It's a lot of noise that I'm sure will make some teams DND him and others think they might get a steal by drafting him if he falls.

It’s a combination of the fact that there’s a lot of smoke around him and he doesn’t seem especially contrite about it. I can forgive things done in bad taste by teenagers if they legitimately understand why what they did was wrong, are legitimately repentant, and find a way to atone for their mistakes. The noise around Connolly is that he doesn’t check any of those boxes.

If Grier and co. determine otherwise, I’ll withhold judgement at that point.

It was his friend who made the joke though.

Luckily unless Pittsburgh makes the playoffs and goes on a run (which is actually looking scaringly possible now), we won't be in a position to have to make that determination of whether he is worth the risk or not.

Tankathon's mock draft has us with Celebrini and Iginla right now.

Eklund-Celebrini-X (Martone in 2025?)
Musty-Smith-Zetterlund
Iginla-Edstrom-X

Is a nice potential top-9. Obviously they won't all hit, and we need to draft some D eventually, but that's a really nice group.
Swap Zetterlund and Iggy 2.0 and i think we rock a Bystedt-Edstrom-Zetterlund sweedish 3rd line.

If the Sharks end up at 2 and nobody else separates themselves from now to the draft, what would you guys put the odds at that we draft Demidov?

I guess, D are just pretty risky and the Sharks need this pick to be a first line/pair player. Feel like Demidov is the much safer bet for that.
Masisak's Hasso profile mentioned Hasso loves Russian wingers. Maybe he/Grier really wanted Michkov and this is the chance to get Michkov lite. That's the only way I see it happening, but I think it's more likely that the pick is Lindstrom (if the back isn't a huge concern) or one of the D's. So I'd say 10%. I do agree that most of these D feel risky. Dickinson doesn't feel risky but he also doesn't feel spicy like a top 3 pick should. Silayev doesn't feel risky on the D side but Tyler Myers type isn't that exciting either... And 3 more years under contract in KHL isn't awesome.

But if he and Grier wanted michkov why not just take him....

They are different types of players and people though. Michkov has been benched for games at a time by multiple coaches and allegedly gotten into it with teammates. I think there is a lot more likely to be attitude issues with him that could very well affect his development than Demidov, who seems relatively safe.

I’m in for Demidov and Levshunov. For some reason I’m less excited about Lindstrom. I think I’m a little bored with the “big guy who makes the simple play”/Meier-type of player. That said he’d be a nice add too, obviously.

I just think, either go for the super exciting guy or go for the defenseman who has the ceiling of a #1. I think we’ll find other Lindstrom’s.
