Meanwhile in Anaheim someone is thinking “Carlsson, McTavish, Lindstrom down the middle is starting to sound awfully tempting.”
That’s fine, because Levshunov/Lindstrom going 2/3 is my next most ideal outcome. And if we miss out on both Lindstrom and Demidov, Buium will still be there.

I think it’s Demidov 2 and Lindstrom 3 and then a huge gap. Buium is possibly 4 but he is closer to the other guys than he is to Demidov and Lindstrom. As more good news about Lindstrom comes out, it is not just the CBJ that is watching.

The draft is funny.

By the time this thing rolls around everyone has their consensus top 5 and these are the best players.

Im not convinced Lindstrom is as good as everyone thinks he is.

Give me the guy who had almost as many goals as Bedard in the WHL.

It seems like two of the prospects we spent the most time with at the combine was Lindstrom and Sennecke. Is Sennecke rising or is this a trade back candidate?

Goals per game, draft year.

Bedard - 1.25
Lindstrom - .84
Catton - .79

All of those numbers are amazing.

I think Beckett Sennecke is a very serious possibility at #4.

I was thinking he's probably the guy Montreal takes at #5 if Demidov and Lindstrom are gone, and hadn't really considered that he might go #4, but there's nothing odd about it. He is that high on some lists, I remember he was fifth on the list of one of Bob's ten scouts. I personally have Sennecke fifth and prefer Lindstrom but I'm not surprised if some folks might have it the other way around.

If we wish to catch a faller on 2nd, then Kiviharju will probably be available. Risky pick, but the brains and leadership qualities are great, and apparently his knee wasnt at full health yet in u18s.

Similar to Jiricek in that there's high upside but youre betting on the player improving skating

I think Kiviharju would sooner be there in the 3rd round than Adam Jiricek make it to the 2nd round. Kiviharju is tiny and hasn't improved much over the years, there's less reason to think he's on his way up. Adam Jiricek is a great skater, by the way, not sure if you were referring to him.

Referring to eliteprospects dir. of Eu scouting since I havent watched Jiricek myself.

And yeah Kiviharju could fall to 3rd, no doubt. Not many players like him make the NHL

Kiviharju is such a weird case.

He has been discussed on HF for 7 years.

He was 11 playing up two levels and excelling when people started posting about him.

But two things have happened - he never grew to an NHL size and he had plenty of injuries.

He could fall to the third round. I still wouldn’t want to pick him. I don’t look at this team and think “what this team needs is an often injured really short left D.”

Does he have knowledge beyond his years? Yes. But he seems like the kind of guy a team with a good defense takes the risk on. He doesn’t seem like someone we should consider.

I don't think it's that unusual.

Those HF threads that get started with pre-teen boys or even 14 or 15 year olds are ridiculous. Being great at that age is not that great of a predictor. No one that age is that good. It takes constant improvement in the later years to become a great pro, and many prospects don't follow that path.

Somewhat similarly - in the 2022 draft we had all of these future greats in Wright, Savoie, and Lambert that had been hyped up since before they were teenagers. All with flat trajectories by the time they were 17 or 18. Then HFers get furiously upset when not everyone thinks those guys are the future saviors of their franchise.

Agreed, I wouldn't draft Kiviharju.

Wright and Savoie still looked like 1st round picks and went top 10. Lambert, by the time the draft actually happened, was the topic of a ton of discussion whether he was a first round talent. It sounded like a lot of teams wouldn’t touch him (or his dad) with a 10 foot pole, but he still went first round. Kiviharju doesn’t look like a first rounder. He seems to be listed as one in mock drafts out of habit. If you only looked at his measurables and recent film you wouldn’t call him a first rounder.

I don't think team's current needs should be a factor on who you draft. Not on 1st round and even less after it. All these players are years away from NHL, so the fixes on defense are not coming from this route. By the time they could be ready, half of the roster will have changed.

Interesting. Two guys the Jackets took to dinner(what that has to do with anything i'm not sure). To me I still take Lindstrom.

They only get 20 minutes with each prospect at the combine so this is them trying to get a feel for their personality and who they are as young men away from all the bright lights. Besides the conversations they have I'm sure they are looking at every little detail, what do you order, how do you treat the staff, do you show up early, late or on time.

At the end of the day it probably doesn't have a huge impact on their selection unless someone is an absolute nightmare lol

Interesting discussion between 2 scouts .Sennecke vs Lindstrom.. starts at 30:00

Sennecke reminds me of Jiricek, in the sense that he looks like a newborn deer on skates. Once he fills out and puts on some weight and strength..he could be a serious problem.

Sounds like CBJ top 4 could be:
1. Celebrini
2. Demidov
3. Lindstrom
4. Sennecke

They predict top 2 will be gone, so they took #3 and #4 to dinner.

I see the look but Sennecke has really good balance. You'll see him fighting to get around someone and he'll be leaning over in a scenario where most players would fall, and he manages to stay on his feet and keeps going.

#2 isn't allowed to go to the combine (no Russians), but will be available before the draft at an event hosted by Dan Milstein.

I hope that's their list, with Buium added that's my top 5.

Yeah it's crazy how he is able to not only get around players but somehow the puck is still on his stick at the end of those plays.
