Agreed. Look at the guys drafted around him, pretty much all of them are at a similar level of production. Sure, if we'd gotten a 3rd in 2025 we could have drafted the next Jake Guentzel or Bryan Rust but odds are more likely we'd draft the next Connor Hall or Ben Hanowski.

I don’t care if he doesn’t make it, but for once it’s nice we got a guy that is unequivocally a scorer and not some dorky “two way player” with extremely mediocre stats.
A lot of teams don't have a #5 that can carry a limited #6 and he's a player that other teams will definitely try to exploit 5on5 especially in the playoffs.
You're right he's good at protecting the front of the net but at the same time he gets torched any time the other team's forwards work the high slot because he's so uncomfortable skating away from the net area to cover opposing players.
I think there's a good reason why he was healthy scratched as the Oilers got deeper into the playoffs.

He's a throw in prospect that has no value other than saying they got a prospect in a deal. Kirill Tankov has a higher chance at making the NHL.

Generally sure, but he wasn't a good one. Allvin had a big miss in that pick and they knew it, it's why he was expendable. He's not a prospect that is doing any of the improvement you want him to do with the issues in his game. He was taken higher than he should have been, he was more like a 5th rounder in a not so strong draft.

Definitely bigger than Melvin's. I'm hearing it is just an elongated episode of Punk'd that they're letting him play SHL games.

I think you do the same development with Big Melv as the Canes did with Koivunen. At least one more season in the SHL, but probably two and then bring him over to Wilkes-Barre to burn down AHL villages.

I don't think it really matters if the Pens never see Fernstrom tbh. I also don't think it really matters of Desharnais sucks. Team got a 1st rounder that's probably gonna be a mid round pick or better for a guy that made no sense to re-sign and a dude who goes like 20 games between goals. /shrug
Hell, it's a good thing if Desharnais sucks. This team should be focused on being as bad as possible over the next two and a half seasons to try and set up for the least amount of post-Sid/Geno hardship as possible. I hope the team's working the phones to see if they can get anything for Rakell or Bunting as well.

I really like this trade. While the 1st will probably be around 20th, there's the possibility that it could be higher. Perhaps even really high in 2026, which brings me so much joy.
I'm not overly enthused about taking on cap for next season, but Desharnais as a gigantic RD will bring back at least a 7th at next year's trade deadline. Heinen I doubt, but maybe next year will be good Heinen and he'll bring an asset back as well?

You can hope that the team as a whole sucks next year, but that Heinen and Desharnais (as well as any other pending UFAs) do well.

He's been alright. He's getting limited ice time in a struggling team, but it's his first real season in the pros, not counting the cup of coffee he had last season, so it's not surprising at all, more of a standard procedure unless you're an amazing talent (which I assume no one here is thinking he is). It's probably the closest SHL season in history, so coaches naturally gravitate towards the veterans because experienceeeeeeeeeee. Linus Pettersson, the second rounder from Anaheim, can't even crack the lineup of one of the worst teams in the league, where he probably would have done more than Tyler Benson, remember him?, who has a whopping 0 points in 20 games. But I digress
His team Örebro has a bit of a weird mix in their forward lineup, like they don't really know what they want, but that could mean he'll get more ice time with better players next season. As for so many swedish players, the second and third season in the pros is where they really take the big steps.

I'd prefer Sullivan be fired about 5 years ago, and don't want him influencing the potential top 5 pick the team's gonna have in June. But yeah, losing is the goal now. Particularly for the 2026 and 2027 drafts.
Just hope he's gone and not coaching any potential building block prospects. I think it'd genuinely kill my desire to watch entirely if he tried to turn McKenna into Bryan Rust.
