It won't be an issue. Demidov will stay in top 5, and Montreal won't be bottom 5 next year. Unless Demidov signs a five year contract in KHL before the draft then he'll fall.
I fully expect the Habs to have another high pick and to overlook an offensively gifted player to draft a player that fit well within the culture of the team.

Holy smokes Demidov.

Levshunov.

Some nice pretty nice russian prospects in the 2024 draft.

Cole Hutson.

Eiserman

Celebrini

Apart from Bedard, am i the only one who thinks it looks better than 2023, so far, like very too early.

Pronman put out a 2024 top 32 in mock draft form. Here's the top 10:

1. C Macklin Celebrini
2. LW Cole Eiserman
3. RW Ivan Demidov
4. LD Sam Dickinson
5. RW Michael Brandsegg-Nygard
6. RD Carter Yakemchuk
7. RD Artyom Levshunov
8. LD Aron Kiviharju
9. RD Charlie Elick
10.C Konsta Helenius
Oh great. Where we are likely to pick the BPA seems to be Defensemen. Good thing we don't have a million defensemen already. Who needs a star forward anyways?

For people getting worked up about how many D are projected in the top 10, keep in mind these rankings will change a million times over the season and won't even be close to what actually happens.

Bob Mckenzie's Pre-Draft top 16 Rankings in September 2022 were as follows:

1 - Bedard
2 - Michkov
3 - Fantilli
4 - Yager (went 14th)
5 - Carlsson
6 - Ritchie (went 27th)
7 - Benson
8 - Cam Allen (went 136th)
9 - Dvorsky
10 - Stramel (went 21st)
11 - Danielson
12 - Gauthier (went 37th)
13 - Sale
14 - Stenberg (went 25th)
15 - Barlow
16 - Halttunen (went 36th)

4 guys who went in the top 8 in Smith, Reinbacher, Simashev and Leonard weren't even in the top 16.

And even by the time the draft rolls around and we've decided there's a tier made up of the top X players in the draft, the last two years a member of the "big five" got taken 6th and 7th.

Sure, but at this point it looks like a D heavy top end. Even in your list it looked like a forward heavy draft at the top end and that’s how it ended up at the end too.

I’m just making a comment based on our current depth that it seems like we’ll probably end up drafting a forward out of need vs the BPA at our spot in 2024 which is likely to be a D.

Levshunov is from Belarus but plays in the US

No I don't think 2024 looks better than 2023. You won't draft a Yager 14th in 2024

Bedard > Celebrini
Carlsson > Eiserman
Fantilli > Demidov
Smith = Levshunov
Reinbacher < Dickinson

etc. in the top 15, 2023 is stronger.
in the next 15, 2024 might be more competitive because there are more good Ds and players with size.
from 32 to 47, 2023 is stronger.

*my evaluation thus far

Another way to do this:

Bedard

Celebrini

Michkov
Carlsson
Fantilli

Smith
Eiserman
Demidov
Levshunov
Dickinson

Reinbacher
