It is too early to make such claims.

Random clustering is a common phenomena and when viewed in such a tiny sample can be meaningless. I would agree that he does need to get a little stronger and gain a little mass but the most important thing is he needs to make more of an effort to elude contact without necessarily rushing the play. He is playing big minutes against top lines who often have the best forecheckers and spend the most time on the O-zone. The opportunity for injury is very elevated for a defender of his age and he simply needs to learn some different tactics to both save and buy time in order to take the edge off of the hits that he is receiving. My opinion is that he isn't using his feet enough and is way too static which makes him an easy target to square up and obliterate. He is brave AF and allows himself to get hit and get hit hard way too often. He certainly doesn't seem fragile as he consistently gets up and looks for more punishment lol be it by absorbing hits or blocking shots. It is just inevitable that he will continue to sustain these injuries if he keeps allowing these big hits to happen. David Savard may not be the best mentor for him as he may be the most well padded defender in the game and is a tank out there. Guhle needs to apply more of Matheson's approach but with improved risk management decisions.
I agree. The problem I have with Guhle is that all of his injuries seem to stem from a lack of awareness of his surroundings. He sure gets rocked a lot. He needs to learn to better protect himself.

EP Rinkside's last video they said that the top forwards have been rising more than the D as the year has progressed, so this 'D filled draft' isn't shaping up that way anymore.
They have only Levshunov and Parekh in their top 7.

I would be very, very surprised if teams went for the forwards, many of which seem like they will be wingers, over all of these defensemen. I just can't see many teams at the top going over Dickinson, Silayev and Levshunov. Defensemen are always highly valued. In any case, EP isn't a source as far as NHL teams go.

EP is always forward leaning and aren't really scout connected. What they believe may not be shared by NHL teams.

Yes, I know they aren't the be-all end-all, but just more info on how some people see things. We won't know til the draft, or at least til Bob's list.

Hughes interview puts cold water on a left shot defenseman. Levshunov is gone for sure. Don't think they're Yakemchuk fans (skating on the back end is a prerequisite for Marty) so Parekh would be the only option that makes sense.
It's the lying season in the NHL. If a LD is clearly the best player available on their list, they'll pick him.

Scouching is doing a stream now and going over his updated April rankings. He has a lot of interesting names outside of his top 13 (and no Yakemchuk in his top 32). His top 32 is:

Interesting. I thought scouching had stopped. Interesting to see he is still out there. Gotta respect the work he puts in and his willingness to stray far away from consensus.

It isn't a very credible list, but good for him.

Sorry if discussed, but Cam Robinson released a mock draft on EP Rinkside today and has us selecting Trevor Connelly over Catton, Iginla, Dickinson, Helenius etc..I can only imagine the reactions here lol

He is skilled, but doesn’t he have a ton of red flags?

Edit: Dean Letourneau with our second 1st rounder.

Some people really waste the exposure they are given...

0 chance of Trevor Connelly at that spot.

I don't think it is awareness at all as he is just accepting the punishment and not protecting himself by using his feet to skate the puck. He has regressed in this area and I believe that it is due to having Savard as a partner and as something of a mentor. Savard is extremely thick and strong on his skates, and he invites hard contact knowing that he will be able to absorb the hit. Guhle is emulating too much of this style and it is going to continue to result in injuries until he goes back to relying more on his skating.

EP is always forward leaning and aren't really scout connected. What they believe may not be shared by NHL teams.

This is common with most pretend scouts. They have a couple of contributors that are not bad but they are generally too young and inexperienced to understand how to assess D prospects. Younger fans almost always lean towards offensive stats without context, I was guilty of this to some degree as well and see a much younger, greener version of myself in some of these people. It is tough to watch people make the same mistakes and have them be so stubborn and dismissive of those who have already been through the same process even though I was guilty of the same thing to a lesser degree.

Everyone should develop their own opinion and it is a fine line between finding the right balance of taking advice and following your own process.

Dickinson 14th, Parekh 19th, Helenius 24th, Sennecke 30th, I wouldn't take this guy serious. Probably block the guy as he obviously doesn't know what he is doing.

Quite the playoffs for Brandsegg-Nygard. Coming out of the first round with one of Lindstrom/Iginla and one of Sennecke/Brandsegg-Nygard would be a perfect scenario.
He gets very little fanfare, but there's a legit possibility that MBN is the better NHL winger of the whole bunch when all is said and done. His game is very NA friendly and should translate quite well IMO.

There is zero chance we pick Connelly. Of that I'm 100% sure. Guy has red flags all over him.

i would assume if he goes first round it'll be to a team that
1. has two first round picks, and
2. could sell the character rehabilitation aspect.

not gonna be Montreal because of Mailloux. not gonna be Philly because of the Briere's son wheelchair incident. it would be easy to say Chicago is a morally bankrupt but i don't think they're dumb enough to invite that PR fiasco.
i don't think it'll be Ottawa or Calgary for Canadian media reasons.

that leaves San Jose or Anaheim. i could be wrong but it's just my gut feeling.
