Way too simplistic way of looking at a prospect. One who could potentially drive his line from the wing. Demidov will be about that size in his prime (add 10-15 or so pounds maybe), they'd be incredibly dumb to skip on him just for that reason.

Mittlestadt was a twig too, so was Karlsson. Catton will be around Panarin, Kaprizov size. It's not enough to be that much of a dealbreaker.
Panarin maybe, but kaprizov is built like a tank. No comparison there. He’s built like Crosby

My current forward rankings,

Mack
Demi
Catton
Lindstrom
Iginla
Helenius
Eiserman

If we finish 8-10 - we will 100% be getting one of these players. At least 3 or 4 defencemen will go in the top 10. We are still set to get a very good forward prospect.

Now that you mention Habs 2nd first rounder, is there any chance that Connelly might still be there? If so, do the Habs ignore (or should they ignore) the controversy and take him? Is he worth the risk and possible backlash?

There's a big chance since it isn't just the snapchat incident.. and the Habs are no doubt one of the teams taht will not draft him.

I'd be shocked if he was still there. Somebody will pick him between 10-20.

I wouldn't be so shocked, there's a lot more than just the snapchat thnig.

I'd be more interested in drafting Sacha Boisvert or Andrew Basha if we can somehow move up or either of them fall.

Sacha Boisvert; Beckett Sennecke or Dean Letourneau would be the guys I'd want to swing on.. Basha and Hage are just behind that group of 3.

It looks like we're locked in at finishing 7th from the bottom. You would think that least one, and possibly two, of Catton, Eiserman and Iginla will be available to draft from the 7th-9th spot, which is fine. They should all be legit. top 6 forwatds in the NHL eventually.

The formula last year was they calculated the need and scarcity of the defender. If he was a left shot we would have picked Leonard.

I can tell you with a straight face, among right handed defenseman in this class, none of them offer the size, skating and defensive game that Reinbacher had. Levshunov is an offensive defenseman with massive IQ questions. Parekh is offense only. Yakemchuk is offensive and mean, defense has big question marks and his skating is below average.

Only Dickinson has the matured defensive game and he's a left shot.

And I disagree on the Leonard thought. Lindstrom is better. Catton is better. I'd put Leonard ahead of Iginla but I don't think it's a massive difference. Both started not being billed as a top 10 talent and added a lot to their games throughout the year
Reinbacher might be more polished but imo he has nowhere near the upside of the RHD in this class. I think he's a 2/3 at the NHL level which is fine, but he definitely doesn't have the offensive upside of any of the three you listed.

Now it's not unlikely (and probably even in likely territory) that he ends up better than two of them but I have little doubt that the one who is developed properly will be a much more valuable player.

Sometimes you have to consider what you have in your prospect pool too. Putting Levshunov with Hutson wouldn’t really work (neither do Mailloux and Barron who are already in the system). Reinbacher seems to be the perfect pick for what the Habs need, as well as arguably being the BPA when they picked.

have not seen him, what about going to the hard places to get a shot off??

He's an inside driven shooter.

He doesn't have the offensive upside of those guys, but you also have a critical mass of purely offensive defenseman on a team. Mailloux and Hutson is that. You couldn't pair Hutson with a Levshunov or a Parekh.

The qualities that made them want Reinbacher don't exist in any right shot defenseman at the top of this draft. So I don't think the "draft a forward last year and a D this year" was ever a viable option.

A lot of Reinbacher points production will come from his elite transition game.

He does not have Parekh or Levshunov offense indeed, but they dont recover puck and start the breakout like Reinbacher does either.

Different players with different skillset.

I wonder where Aatos Koivu will rank. He and Tij Iginla would be a great haul this draft, if we're not picking in the top 5.

Chances of picking in the top 5 are slim. We have to focus on the next tier: Eiserman, Iginla, Helenius, MBN, Parekh, Buuim, etc..

That's what I'm doing, wondering about Koivu and Iginla. Anybody know what Aatos Koivu's draft ranking predictions might be? Late first?! Second round!?

He’s on 2nd/3rd/4th round boards now.

I think ends up going early in the 2nd round, outside chance a team drafts him late in the 1st due to the bloodline.

If we keep ourselves in the no man's land of the bottom half of the top 10, I think Catton is the obvious choice. We need to start drafting for talent.

Franchise player:
Macklin Celebrini

Elite offensive upside:
Ivan Demidov

High-end offensive upside with size:
Cayden Lindstrom

High-end offensive upside with defense and/or size concerns:
Berkly Catton
Cole Eiserman

Reliable top 6 forward:
Konsta Helenius
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard
Tij Iginla

I'd mostly agree, but I'd swap Iginla with Eiserman, and put Demidov and Celebrini in the same tier. I think Demidov has the higher offensive upside but Celebrini will be the more valuable player.
