I mean this in the absolute nicest way possible

But I trust our scouts and other teams scouts way more than you and how you feel about both players

I think you'll find Reinbacher will surprise a lot of people as early as next year
For sure, I am not an expert at all. I am just looking at the progression almost a year after the draft. What Mitchkov is doing is remarkable, almost a PPG in the KHL. He is destroying Kaprizov's number D+1 for example.

I want Reinbacher to succeed like everyone else. What I will not make however, are excuses for lack of production. I understand production is not everything but when you are a top 5 pick, it matters.

That's fair

When it comes to him and 'European production'
I really don't expect a whole lot
It's more about , how do I put this, 'waiting for him to turn 22-23 years old' basically lol
Everything in between then and now is just acclimation and development for me

It just doesn't work that way for dmen as they are far more reliant on forwards to score goals so that they can accrue assists. He very well may have great numbers on a different team. Using stats to solely judge a Dman's progression is a terrible mistake and not even worth speaking about. This is just the same dumb narrative that had novice fans calling McDonagh a bust in his D+1 and D+2 seasons .

Catton scored another. 48 now and 5 pts in the game so far. On a mediocre team.

He is playing on a garbage team. Not sure if he is the 1st pp either.

There we go with the excuses again. It does not matter. If he is good enough he should be able to help the team not being as bad.
He also better get used to it because the team he will play for will be bad.

That is not how it works especially not in junior. It's a fact, his team stink. What is clear is that he is the best player on his team but to say that this is just an excuse is a very poor take. He cannot stop the bad goals from his goaltender or the bad give away from his defenseman or the bad secondary scoring for his teammates. He can only control when he is on the ice. Based on your logic, the Nordiques should not have drafted Joe Sakic because he was a small and weak player but dominant on a very poor team and the fact his team stank was just bad excuse.

That is a terrible take.....should he play net as well and play on all 4 lines as well as all 3 D pairs.

Boy I am tired of the same discussions in this thread. Can we all move on from Reinbacher whataboutism and just give the kid 4 years. Who cares at this point.

Let's talk about our 2nd 1st and who you want.
Lot's of interesting RHD in the back half of the first if we want to add a high value position. Jiricek, Emery, Pulkkinen and Brunicke are my favorites.

For forwards I like Sennecke, Parascak and Hemming. Connelly if we are down to take a potential top 5 player in the draft and work with the off ice red flags.

When all is said and done,

Catton should finish the season with around 115-120 points.

He is the point leader in his shit team.

Honestly, if we pick 6-7OV and he is still here, its hard to pass him. I was leaning Tij but i am starting to find it difficult to not have Catton right up there with the Lindstrom and Demidov.

I love that there are a few amazing forward options in this draft after Celebrini. Different posters have their preferences, but in the end they all bring something different to the table.

We probably won't have a chance for Lindstrom and Demidov, so It may very well come down to Catton vs Iginla vs Helenius vs Eiserman for the Habs.

Speaking of Lindstrom, this injury is dragging on longer than everybody thought. It would be nice if he played before the end of the regular season. They only have 7 games left, then they have the playoffs.

Now that you mention Habs 2nd first rounder, is there any chance that Connelly might still be there? If so, do the Habs ignore (or should they ignore) the controversy and take him? Is he worth the risk and possible backlash?

I'd be shocked if he was still there. Somebody will pick him between 10-20.

I would think he'd be selected sooner as well. If he's still there, would you want the Habs to take him even though it might be seen as a controversial pick? I'm curious how much his lapse in judgement is going to affect where he gets chosen.
