wtf is a wokester and why is Basu one?
It's a term used to discredit somebody you don't like apparently.

As if the Habs are considering only forwards in their list this year, I would be terribly dissapointed after last year draft choice they made who was a significant reach instead of great fowards available.

Was not a reach. All the teams trying to get the Habs 5th pick were trying to get Reinbacher.

Then they should apply the same formula for this year. No way somebody can tell me with a straight face that Reinbacher is better than this year top defenseman prospects.

For instance Ryan Leonard, Matvei Michkov >>>> Tij Iginla, Catton and even Lindstrom. Only Demidov and Macklin are notch above.

The formula last year was they calculated the need and scarcity of the defender. If he was a left shot we would have picked Leonard.

I can tell you with a straight face, among right handed defenseman in this class, none of them offer the size, skating and defensive game that Reinbacher had. Levshunov is an offensive defenseman with massive IQ questions. Parekh is offense only. Yakemchuk is offensive and mean, defense has big question marks and his skating is below average.

Only Dickinson has the matured defensive game and he's a left shot.

And I disagree on the Leonard thought. Lindstrom is better. Catton is better. I'd put Leonard ahead of Iginla but I don't think it's a massive difference. Both started not being billed as a top 10 talent and added a lot to their games throughout the year

I’d much rather Lindstrom over Leonard and Michkov. Iginla and Leonard is a toss up.

Reinbacher would probably be the top RD in this class since he doesn’t have the warts the others do (poor defensive games)

Plus the whole argument of comparing drafts is stupid. For all we know, Dach is healthy all year, breaks out offensively, and the Habs are picking around 10-14. Look at the Flyers and Red Wings jump.

Absolutely Reinbacher would be in the top 2/3 defenceman taken and potentially the first D taken depending on what a team is looking for. All the tools and the statistical profile to match - a RD to boot. Dickinson/Levshunov/Silayev/Yakemchuk each have significant question marks. Those issues will be talked about more as we get closer to the draft and people start looking a bit more critically at who we'll. It's still mostly hype at this point.

Easy to be critical of Reinbacher after the year he's had but he's still an exceptional prospect. Ryan Leonard is absolutely not >>> Lindstrom or Catton.

Except it’s been reported by non-Habs media as well. Well known the Flyers tried to trade Gauthier for the 5th pick and Arizona very obviously wanted a defenceman since they reached for one right after.
I wouldn't trust those reports. As long as those non-Habs media report something about the Habs, they are sure to get more clicks than their normal stories.

I would put Reinbacher in the same tier of prospects as Levshunov and Dickinson but also Nemec and Jiricek. Fwiw.

Who you prefer is subjective but Reinbacher has a case against the top D from 2022 and 2024. And vice versa.

Also, we always argue to draft with an "upside" (to not say bpa) mentality and to disregard needs. Now why should we draft in function of next year draft?

I think the Predators wanted the pick for Askarov so they could get Reinbacher too. Maybe it's all a big conspiracy to make us feel better, but RHD are insanely valuable.

The rumors that the Predators were trying to climb up at the draft by dangling Askarov was out in the wild before draft day.

Names mentioned by Basu/Godin on their podcast last night were (with Celebrini off the table) Lindstrom and Demidov, then Eiserman and Catton.

They are pretty confident the Habs brass see this pick as their opportunity to add to their forward group.
Glad they're restricting their projection to the top 6, but arguably, they may have to consider more forwards than just this group. I'd like the pundits to go a little deeper and ask about Helenius vs Ignla for instance.

Well if it's all set in stone by your divine decree
Then I guess we don't need the scouts

I guess that is the official story to make fans feel better.
And your official story on it would be.... what exactly?

The scouts saw something in Reinbacher and picked him. That's it.

I don't care who wanted to move up but didn't. All I care is the player we ended up with. Also care about the results and development of the player and they haven't been good. We can use excuses all you want (bad team blah blah) but Mitchkov is also playing on the worst KHL team.

They were the ones who were telling everyone it was Reinbacher or Leonard, and that they weren't interested in Michkov. Despite everyone and their dog wanting to believe it was some smokescreen and they would take Michkov.

He has contacts with the organization. Now we are a ways away from when that Intel becomes more solidified, but I doubt they'd routinely throw his name around if they had on good authority he wasn't a consideration.
Yea but it's pretty clear they haven't dug in to this crop of prospects yet and it's way to early to even know who the Habs are targeting, they themselves dont know for sure yet. At this time of the year the scouts have only put together a list of guys they want more viewings of which will still be quite large. Player's stock sky rocket all the time with playoffs. David Reinbacher went from 20th in late January to top 10 in Bob's final rankings last year, to our pick at 5.

This was all hypothetical speak from Arpon and MAG just naming the top forwards that are already being put out by the public lists.

I mean this in the absolute nicest way possible

But I trust our scouts and other teams scouts way more than you and how you feel about both players

I think you'll find Reinbacher will surprise a lot of people as early as next year

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing and put that caveat in my post.

We are a long way out for them to have a really good feel - but I doubt they'd be throwing out anybody's name if they had heard anywhere in the organization that certain prospects were not in their view because they didn't meet the threshold of something they were looking for.

Yes, scouts put their job on the line, only time will tell, so far it's very much up in the air but we cannot say without a once of a doubt that Reinbacher had the perfect post draft season.

I just don't think they are likely to hear from anyone in the org at this time certain prospects are no go's. Seems like they just threw out the consensus top forward names.

Most of their actual info comes around the combine.
