More like Silayev and then all the other picks are a mix of d and sub 6'ft forwards..
I don't care about sub 6.0 forward. We are not talking about goaltenders hete but forwards

6.0 is just a psycho barr for people who dont know s...about hockey.

Half of the best forwards in history of hockey are and were sub 6.0.

Do we hear ..: we should draft the 6.3 instead of the 6.1...? No

Then we why we should draft the 6.0 instead of the 5.10...no hockey logic whatsoever.

Bring me the 5.11 Catton!!!

Including Crosby 5.11. Sakic 5.11. Yzerman 5.11. Bourque 5.11.
Though Gretzky was listed at 6'0, a few sources suggest he too was 5'11. At least drafted at that size.

Yep and Gretzky was at 170 pounds like Pat Kane.

Rocket
Dionne
St louis
Bedard
Yzerman
Sakic
Kucherov

Are just few exemples of sub 6.0.....but people still believe in rhe 6.0 + dummys...

Again...the famous quote by Martin St louis::

A scout goes seeing a small player until he plays a bad game and he goes seeing a tall one until he plays a good one.

I am 48 years old and nobody brought me yet a good hockey argument of how a 5.10 forwards is less effective than a 6.0 player.

The 6.0 barr is bs. Again no one would suggest to draft a player of 6.5 versus a 6.3.

I mentioned relatively recent players who were surrounded by taller players, much like in today's game, which is why I left off Rocket and Dionne, but both of these guys were dominant as well. I agree that there is a lot of heightism in the game. Scouts are not very contrarian, though I think that it pays to be.

For some people..all they looking at is height....so my grand Mother could be a scout if the 2 main things to watch is height and skating....

When i see posters who never really watch either Catton or Lidstrom saying that we have to go with Lidstrom just because he is 6.3... i mean....no comment...

Im a huge Konsta Helenius fan, he is 5'11 and like 10 pounds heavier than Catton. One plays big and has a Fantastic motor to go with his talent level, the other is on the soft side and doesnt compete as hard away from the puck. I was a huge Brindley fan last year, kid is 5'9 but competes like he was 6'3. Its not just about size, its about body strength, compete and grit level.

Guys like St-Louis, Sakic were built like tanks, Catton looks like a shrimp, will need to hit the gym big time cause right now he is just not physically engaged.

I would add that Benson was much more physically involved too and was smaller than Catton.

Agree Helenius is underrated, he is very talented and has a great shot. Also euro leagues usually lead you to develop your two way game sooner. That being said Catton highlights are very impressive, he seems to have great hands and release so I understand why he would be a tempting pick too.

Yep Catton is highly talented, I never questionned that.

I don't see how Lindstrom is better than Catton other than size.
Its Macklin, Demidov, Catton for me for Fs.

For all the Iginla stans, what elite skills does Iginla have that Catton does not?
From Jason Bukala and Rory Boylen's article on SportsNet:

SCOUT’S ANALYSIS

When you have a name like “Iginla” there will be inevitable comparisons:

• When the Dallas Stars selected Jarome Iginla in the first round of the 1995 draft, he was coming off a season where he scored 33 goals and 38 assists for the Kamloops Blazers.

• Tij should easily eclipse his father’s goals and points in his draft year. He has already produced 31 goals and 24 assists for the Kelowna Rockets.

• The game has changed over the years. When Jarome was drafted as a goal-scoring, power-forward type, he was whistled for 111 penalty minutes.

• Tij isn’t shy about battling in the trenches and has an edge to his game on occasion, but his overall approach isn’t as physically aggressive as his father’s was at the junior and NHL levels. So far this season, Tij has 19 penalty minutes.

If a goal scorer is going to play to his identity at the pro level there are three things I look for before breaking down their skill attributes:

1. The prospect has to play the game quickly and fast enough. If he lags with his pace, he will have no chance of playing to his offensive element at the NHL level.

2. The player has to display the ability to think the game effectively when things are happening quickly around him.

3. There aren’t any easy days in the NHL. Prospects have to be programmed with relentless compete.

Tij Iginla is a match for me in all three categories.

He’s sturdy and strong (5-foot-11, 182 pounds), has the pace to be a threat off the rush, and battles to extend plays along the boards and out front the net. When a lane opens up, he’s aggressive ripping pucks on net and follows the play to the crease looking for secondary chances.

Tij played exactly to his identity at the prospects game in Moncton. His handles in transition were well thought out. When an opponent gapped up, he chipped the play deep and worked to win the puck back as the first forward on the forecheck. He absorbed contact along the wall, sometimes from more than one defender, which opened up space for his linemates to make plays. I especially noticed how he surveyed the ice in the offensive zone and rotated off the cycle, making “low to high” plays.

Tij cannot be described as the power forward his father was, but he’s a better skater at the same age and has his dad’s puck touch when it comes to directing pucks on net with authority.

NHL Projection: Top six forward. Goal scorer, power play contributor. Competes in hard areas

NHL Draft Stock: Top 10 pick projection is looking likely

NHL Arrival: Could tease at first NHL training camp, but more realistically will compete for an NHL job in the fall of 2025.

It doesn't really matter where we finish, we'll end up with a very great forward. All of Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton, Eiserman and Iginla bring something different, all have their warts so yeah it's preferable when you have the chance to pick the one who's first on your list, but at the end of the day (f*** I despise this expression now) they're all very close to each other in a tier list.

But it's a moot point anyways, we're drafting Celebrini.

Can’t shake the feeling that Helenius is someone we look back on in a couple of years and wonder why we questioned his skill level and downplayed his impact in a professional league.

Latest watches has me crushing on Yakemchuk. He seems to have that X factor where he feeds off of getting under people's skin. Looks steadier the last games i've seen too.

That's what I see too.

Some people obsess about our ranking to pick one forward above another, but in reality, there is a ton of potential in Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton and Helenius. Add Celibrini and the defensemen and we should get one of these guys no problem. Maybe add Eiserman also. While not my favorite, he is a potentially special player also.

I'm actually slightly worried that Helenius will be gone much earlier than expected and we won't have a shot at him. Not too worried because that would open up another option, but I would be thrilled with Helenius in Montreal.

Helenius is the most meh option for me.. he's a great player but whenever I watch him I get Bs all across the board. I can't think of a situation where I'd want the puck on his stick when down a goal.. where I'd love to have the puck on Cattons stick.

Perhaps. But it is always hard to gauge the difference between a player playing in a pro league and one playing in juniors. Helenius is easy to project in a team's top 6 while many other options will need to grow into the role and have higher odds of falling short of their potential.

Helenius is a high floor player. People like to equate high floor to low ceiling, but I don't. I think he has potential to develop into a special player with a good chance to at least be above average.

That being said, I am no draft guru and will gladly watch it unfurl in the coming years. I like to throw my mildly informed view out there for bragging rights when it works (Pietrangelo, a long time ago, not on here, Jarvis, Nemec), but won't fight to the death for my ideas. After all, Colton Teubert didn't really work out for me 😅

He's producing in the men's league which makes his projection tough for me - I was expecting his skills to shine more in the WJC and had the same reservations.

Not sure if he will be aged out of the u18s but that will be his opportunity to show if his skills are higher than he gets to show in a pro setting.
