I get it and don’t disagree. But in interviews with him I’d be asking the question about willingness to move positions.

And it seems like a waste to draft him and then put him in the wing. His value is largely the fact that he’s a big center.

I think the value is in that he's a big forward who was scoring at nearly a goal per game pace.

Why? We have 8 forward spots open for the PP, and he will likely be on PP2 regardless of being on line 2 or 3, and if we have three strong lines, it just means less icetime for the 4th line 5v5.
Because Dach's too good for the 3rd line. I wouldn't want to use him in limited minutes. We also wouldn't have any talented wingers for him to play with. Moreover, it would push Beck to the 4th line.

Seems a waste to draft him and not use him at center. And again, I'd make sure he was good with playing wing before taking him and using him there.

We've had problems at C for 30 years but yeah, let's not draft a C in 2024 because we might already have 2 that are decent when healthy.

I think Lindstrom might be better on the wing. I am not entirely sold on his distribution skills or his overall skill level. I like him but he scares me as a possible 3rd liner who may not be able to create much when he loses much of his speed/size advantage.

By all means draft him. But don't draft him and play him to play him on the wing. And if you're thinking about doing that, make sure he's good with it or draft somebody else.

Players who are star centers in Junior end up on the wing all the time in the NHL and they don't sulk or cause problems. I don't know why this is an argument.

Draft the best player.

Okay fair enough. And if it's Lidstrom, sure. I can understand that even if I'd rather him at center. If it's Catton though... you're not drafting that guy to play on the wing.

Do you really want to draft Catton and put him on the wing? Makes no sense at all. Same with Cellebrini. If we got him would we put him on the wing? No right?

It shouldn’t be an argument. Catton and Lindstrom would be good wingers - might actually be more suited there in the NHL.

The Habs will be evaluating Dach at center next season, like they planned to do this season. If they draft a center it gives them flexibility going forward.

I could see Catton ending up on the wing. The NHL's a different beast than the CHL. Most CHL wingers were centers throughout minor hockey. It's the nature of the beast as players move up to higher levels. Only one player on the ice can play center at a time.

Cellebrini will end up at center because's he's a potential franchise player but he could play on the wing next year until he adapts to the much higher level of play.

Okay, fair enough. I’ll take it back. I’m not digging in here as I don’t know these players other than what I’ve read.

To me you draft a scoring center that’s where you’d want to play him but if folks in the know say he’s be good at the wing so be it.

The point is that just because he's a big scorer at center in the CHL doesn't necessarily mean he'd be able to do that at the NHL level, although he might. It's a different game. I also don't want two "smallish" centers on my top two lines, and Suzuki isn't moving to wing.

That’s fine. I don’t know him well enough to argue it.

To me, I see a scoring center not a winger. But hey, maybe he’d be fine on the wing.

But why draft a center if you’re going to put him at wing? Just draft a winger.

And if it were - Cellebrini? He ain’t going to wing.

It would be a great problem to have.
That’s why you draft BPA. Talent can adapt. Hence we’ve seen it often juniors positions change once pro

Always down with BPA.

But this draft is - all over the place. Rankings are everywhere and I don’t think BPA is clear. This is the kind of draft where teases will likely draft for need because player values aren’t easy to determine.

We have over a decade most likely before worrying mate ;)
