We could. But it seems like a waste. Why can't we have depth in our top 9?
We could. But it seems like a waste. Why can't we have depth in our top 9?
Why? We have 8 forward spots open for the PP, and he will likely be on PP2 regardless of being on line 2 or 3, and if we have three strong lines, it just means less icetime for the 4th line 5v5.We could. But it seems like a waste.
So is everybody on board with Iginla as the next forward pick if Demidov/Lindstrom are gone?
Celebrini
Demidov
Lindstrom
Iginla
Catton
Or something like that order?
I get it and don’t disagree. But in interviews with him I’d be asking the question about willingness to move positions.
And it seems like a waste to draft him and then put him in the wing. His value is largely the fact that he’s a big center.
Because Dach's too good for the 3rd line. I wouldn't want to use him in limited minutes. We also wouldn't have any talented wingers for him to play with. Moreover, it would push Beck to the 4th line. Why? Seems a waste to draft him and not use him at center. And again, I'd make sure he was good with playing wing before taking him and using him there.I think the value is in that he's a big forward who was scoring at nearly a goal per game pace.
We've had problems at C for 30 years but yeah, let's not draft a C in 2024 because we might already have 2 that are decent when healthy.
By all means draft him. But don't draft him and play him to play him on the wing. And if you're thinking about doing that, make sure he's good with it or draft somebody else. We've had problems at C for 30 years but yeah, let's not draft a C in 2024 because we might already have 2 that are decent when healthy.
Players who are star centers in Junior end up on the wing all the time in the NHL and they don't sulk or cause problems. I don't know why this is an argument.Seems a waste to draft him and not use him at center. And again, I'd make sure he was good with playing wing before taking him and using him there.
Okay fair enough. And if it's Lidstrom, sure. I can understand that even if I'd rather him at center. If it's Catton though... you're not drafting that guy to play on the wing.Players who are star centers in Junior end up on the wing all the time in the NHL and they don't sulk or cause problems. It shouldn’t be an argument. Catton and Lindstrom would be good wingers - might actually be more suited there in the NHL.Players who are star centers in Junior end up on the wing all the time in the NHL and they don't sulk or cause problems. I don't know why this is an argument.
I could see Catton ending up on the wing. The NHL's a different beast than the CHL. Most CHL wingers were centers throughout minor hockey. It's the nature of the beast as players move up to higher levels. Only one player on the ice can play center at a time.Okay fair enough. And if it's Lidstrom, sure. Do you really want to draft Catton and put him on the wing? Makes no sense at all. Same with Cellebrini. If we got him would we put him on the wing? No right?
Okay, fair enough. I’ll take it back. I’m not digging in here as I don’t know these players other than what I’ve read.I could see Catton ending up on the wing. Cellebrini will end up at center because's he's a potential franchise player but he could play on the wing next year until he adapts to the much higher level of play.
The point is that just because he's a big scorer at center in the CHL doesn't necessarily mean he'd be able to do that at the NHL level, although he might. It's a different game. I also don't want two "smallish" centers on my top two lines, and Suzuki isn't moving to wing.Okay, fair enough. I’ll take it back. To me you draft a scoring center that’s where you’d want to play him but if folks in the know say he’s be good at the wing so be it.
That’s fine. I don’t know him well enough to argue it.The point is that just because he's a big scorer at center in the CHL doesn't necessarily mean he'd be able to do that at the NHL level, although he might. That’s why you draft BPA. Talent can adapt. Hence we’ve seen it often juniors positions change once proBut why draft a center if you’re going to put him at wing? Just draft a winger.
And if it were - Cellebrini? He ain’t going to wing.
It would be a great problem to have.
Always down with BPA.That’s why you draft BPA. Talent can adapt. Hence we’ve seen it often juniors positions change once pro
We have over a decade most likely before worrying mateI think Lindstrom might be better on the wing. I am not entirely sold on his distribution skills or his overall skill level. I like him but he scares me as a possible 3rd liner who may not be able to create much when he loses much of his speed/size advantage.
