Focus your attentions on Catton, Iginla, Helenius and Eiserman.

Don't get caught up in dreaming about Lindstrom or Demidov any more.

They're all pretty interchangeable anyway. It's also more likely one of that group of four ends up being the best of the bunch.

And if we stay at #6, I'd argue Demidov is probably still available. Three D are likely going top 5.

Call me crazy but if Celebrini/Demidov/Lindstrom are picked ahead of us, I'm taking a dman.
I woudn't hate taking a chance on Parekh, but I'll just take Iginla or Eiserman first. The Habs prospect pool at forward is laughable right now. Mesar, Beck, Roy and Florian? We really need an A level prospect up front and both Eiserman and Iginla would be something we don't have right now.

We've had problems at C for 30 years but yeah, let's not draft a C in 2024 because we might already have 2 that are decent when healthy.
And everyone forgets that Suzuki who is a top-15 center in the league started on the 4th line but God forbid if we pick up a center in this draft he should start on the 3rd line. It'll be such a waste.

Listening to Pronmans latest pod - will post as I chunk through it.

  • Yakemchuk will have wide variance so don't be surprised if a team takes him high. Depends on what they think of the skating.
  • Believes Sam Dickinson will go top 5 when all is said is done and would not be surprised at all if he's the first defenseman off the board.
  • Could call 10 scouts and get a different opinion on who their favorite defenseman is in the class between Silayev, Levshunov, Dickinson and Yakemchuk.
  • Believes 6 defenseman will go in the top 10 of this draft. I'm guessing based on what he said its Silayev, Levshunov, Dickinson, Yakemchuk as the top 4 and then Parekh and Buium as the back two of the top 6.

This means that if we aren't selecting first, we will have a shot at Demi, Lindstrom, and Catton. I like this very very much.

More from Pronman

  • Be careful on consensus lists that have the smaller defenseman and wingers in the top 32, most likely you'll see guys like EJ Emery get drafted higher than them, because at a certain point teams covet defenseman and centers with size over the smaller wingers (talks about Heidt and Cristall as examples last year).
  • Lotta teams see Letourneau as a late first.
  • Demidov vs Michkov: Demidov is a more competitive player; hard gets to net, wins battles, attacks pucks, like the tenacity more. His skating stride is wonky, more powerful and elusive skater. Doesn't quite have the natural offensive touch as Michkov. Michkov's offensive creativity and IQ are higher. People think Demidov's game is more of a fit for the NHL. Pronman leans Michkov.
  • Thinks Eiserman will be a no doubt 1st rounder (lol); last few weeks have been better. Still significant concerns on this player, average playmaker, average compete. Shoot first winger tend to rub NHL evaluators the wrong way. Tend to go later than mocked. 8-12 is his projected range. 7-8 is when the conversation starts.
  • Could Tij Iginla reach star territory? Iginla is trending up, think Iginla might be on the U18s since its starting later and Kelowna should be out. Really skilled player. Some teams have him in the top 10. Most don't. His tournament might give them an answer as far as how high he will go.
That's it.

assuming Lindstrom and Demidov are off the board I think our scouts will be debating iginla v Helenius. If they value size which seems to be the trend I think we go iginla.

I'd seriously consider taking a defenseman at that point as well. But in doing that I would also have a deal lined up to trade one of our better defense prospects for a young forward.

I just don’t see them having interest in his type of player based on how they drafted the past 2 years.

This is irrespective of what I think of Catton but simply based on what they value.

I think they appreciate Suzuki very much and Catton very much can play that style of game with more pace just probably won't get as polished defensively.

Catton is my target after Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom.

I really hope that Habs management will take him if these 3 guy are not available. He will complete the forwards group very well. Slaf, Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Newhook, Roy and Catton. That's sound very promising to me!

Catton Dach Slaf would work and could be deadly. But then you need an another 6’3+ guy to play with Suzuki, Caufield. That line has looked the best when they had one of Dach or Slaf on the wing. Maybe the solution is as simple as signing Monahan to play there and build your 3rd line around other pieces.

Personally, if we draft Catton and when Dach comes back, I'd probably keep Slaf and Suzuki together with Catton on their wing and move to Newhook-Dach-Caufield as the second line.

Is it just me or does this draft not seem that bad. Most guys ranked performing pretty damn well in their draft years.
