Iginla or Catton?

Catton have higher offensive potental. Iginla have huge leadership potential like his father, with high offensive talent aswell. But looks more complete player than Catton, even if Catton is a real deal.

I think it's a question of preference, for the potential... I will go with Catton, but Iginla looks a player who will have a really really good NHL career to me.

I am a fan of Iginla, but I do project him more as a strong complementary player at this point. He's got some very strong hockey instincts and some high end skills, but I'm not sure I see high level of offensive vision/playmaking from him based on my limited viewings.

He's the type of player who will make any line better and be a strong glue guy. I'd prefer Catton because I think he does possess a higher level of vision and seems to be more of a natural offense "architect".
Hes not complementary in the WHL. He's the one driving the play. He has the skating, the passing, the size and of course the shot to be the man. He's always active, he carried it all around the ice, he breaks open the defense with both his skating and IQ.

If he's making any line better, is he really a complementary player ? Is he really not driving the play ? By driving the play do we mean "not a playmaker first" ? Iginla's ice management is better than Catton who runs around the board looking for the best pass possible, not that I hate Catton but he's not a perfect player. Iginla on the other hand opens up space for his team in the same way Slaf does.

Beyond Tij's own package, skill and play, I just get the vibe he's going to be a player purely because of who his dad is. Not that he's going to be a Jarome level player, Jarome was insanely good. But if half of his character is passed on to Tij then you have to think Tij is gonna have the drive to succeed.

That would be a combine interview I'd be putting a lot of weight into if I were Habs management

I'm curious how everyone would rank these 2 lists separately if you strictly go by BPA and not taking Montreal's needs into account.

  • Silayev
  • Yakemchuk
And:

How content are people of a future top 6 and top 4 of:

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Newhook-Dach-Roy

Hutson-Reinbacher
Guhle-Mailloux

Which group do you have more faith in going forward?

Asking, because maybe it would be a mistake to pigeonhole ourselves into a forward this draft.

More faith in the defense. I don't think we are competitive with both Newhook and Roy in the top 6. There needs to be another 1st line talent there.

It's more about, who's progression and development do they feel like waiting on the least when it comes to this draft imo

There's always what they might do through trade, and there's always free agency

The sentiment seems to be management is pretty much done 'being content finishing at the bottom' and so will most likely opt for who they feel is the most NHL ready prospect this time

If you were trying to shine a light on how unsure you feel about the defense, I would state I'm much more concerned about that possible top 6

We dont really need another defenseman unless he is elite level since we have both Engstrom and Konyushkov in the system as real wildcards with top 4 potential.

Ideally its a foward, only defenseman I would personally consider is Silayev.

Ideally, I’d like to see a top line talent added with our first pick this year, drop Caufield to the 2nd line with Dach and Newhook/Roy.

One of the two gets to play on the 3rd with Beck and you have some top end talent and depth on up front, while having a solid D core

Or keep the 1st line and add a top line talent with Dach cause you also have Newhook/Roy on that line.

I personally think Roy is Taylor made for a 3rd line who can also move up in the lineup. Beck needs at least 1 year being the top C in the AHL getting 20 min per game.

It's hard to say for sure given that Hutson and Mailloux haven't played a game yet. If neither player really translates all that well into the NHL, the defense is a serious issue since I doubt you're a cup contender with Guhle-Reinbacher as a top pair.

I would definitely consider Dickinson or Levshunov if they're available where we're picking (which they probably won't be), but talent being equal, you would have to go for the forward in this draft. Our forward prospect depth is sub-par for a rebuilding team.

Even Parekh, regardless of the issues he may have, he's on pace for 35 goals as a 17 year defenseman in the OHL....When was the last time a 17 year old defenseman scored 35 goals in the OHL?

Iginla is the type that not many people talk about him right now on social media but the scouts probably see him way higher on their lists. We’ll hear more about him closer to the draft.

Even if we draft say 8th overall, you have to think one of Catton/Lindstrom/Demidov is available and outside of Levshunov or Dickinson I wouldn’t value any other D in that tier.

There’s very little appetite from myself to go D in this draft, barring some unforeseen anomaly.

Me either, Buium and Parekh are interesting but how many offensive D do we need and can give minutes to

Exactly. Good prospects and for some teams could be BPA, but with the way our prospect pool is currently lopsided and the gluttony of excellent forwards available in the range we should be picking - it’s a no brainer.
