I bet that Levshunov, Dickinson are going to be draft top 5 at the next draft.
If montreal are picking 7th
Pick someone between, Celebrini, Lindstrom, Demidov, Catton, iginla and I will be happy. I hope montreal won’t pick at 8 or 9.
These are my favorites too. With Demidov at the top. I like Iginla more than I did Leonard.

Konyushkov and Volokhin just last year.

Basu was also on record last year saying someone from the scouting staff told him to keep an eye on Demidov. Alluding they liked him more than Michkov.
I hope Im wrong. But I think there is a difference on a top 10 pick and a 4th round pick in term of risk. Demidov is a kind a player that I would like in MTL, certainly

I doubt that Demidov will be there past 5. He doesn’t seem to have the perceived “baggage” that Michkov has. But he’s probably not as good as Michkov.

I am willing to bet Demidov is not selected top 5. Not that he is not loved by scouts/teams it is more about the risk vs benefits. If you can draft a guy like Dickinson who can become your franchise defenseman and at worst your top 4 defenseman. They are not trying to build fantasy teams, they want to build winning teams.

Who were the last top 10 players drafted out of Russia to become superstar? I have two names in mind Malkin+Ovechkin and that was 2 decades ago. In the meantime, Kravtsov, Filatov, Podkolzin, Yakupov, Grigorenko, Burmistrov and dissapointed. It is not necesseraly because of their nationality/talent but because it is very hard to adapt to the North American leagues and most of them have no desire to develop or stay in the AHL to do that.

You know my obsession about BPA....well....again...it has NOTHING to do with who we find out was the best player in 5 years. I don't think there's a way to know that Catton is actually the BPA vs Dickinson for example.

But my point was always about this....if you pick for example Greentree (who is not a bad player) instead of Dickinson because you don't NEED D's...but you NEED big wingers...well that's where I call BS.

but that top 10 this year....it's almost impossible to determine from the get go the BPA. I just hope that for the Habs, the pick who they think is the best player. If it's Dickinson...so be it. But...I would not be against what @WeThreeKings is saying....IF the market is so available for us to get additional 1st rounders so that a team want to move ahead of us....I'm not against it either this year. I mean Flames want to give us 9 and 31 for 7....yep. I do it.

So in terms of forward tiers, we're looking at the following:

Celebrini

Lindstrom
Demidov

Catton
Eiserman
Helenius
Iginla
I don't see us being 8th ov and trying to move up, I feel like they'd settle for a Catton and keep the assets for something else

But if we're 5th ov, I can totally see us try to get #2 or #3 ov actually, I really do

You only need to get to 4th realistically. Unless Anaheim slips from the top 4. One of those D are just too enticing to pass on especially when your devoid of top pairing talent. Their best D being Mintyukov who'll probably top out as a low tier top pair

Well if we are 8th and at 5th Demidov or Lindstrom is sitting there, I think they'll make the move.

I truly believe they are going to try to work whatever they need to in order to secure one of Lindstrom or Demidov.

outside of Michkov i don't think there's been another forward out of Russia (not in NA like Svechnikov) as highly touted as Demidov. maybe Kravtsov. last one before that was probably 11 years ago with Nichushkin. your sample size is tiny and it doesn't speak to Demidov's career trajectory.

This is definitely the year to go all in at the draft. This is the last tank year imo. After getting hopefully a forward, they don't really need anymore top tier talent for their top 6/4 high in the draft

HuGo might even go crazy and offer an unprotected 2025 1st

Nothing to do with their trajectory but more with the other players available. The top 2 defenseman in this year draft are amazing and with no risk. Celebrini is exceptional. Lindstrom is not unlike Byfield/Slaf, a rare type of player with talent. Then it is between riskier choice like Eiserman or Demidov, both have superstar aura but are riskier for different reasons.

with no Russian contract extension in place, i really don't see Demidov as all that risky. i take him any day with Lindstrom gone.

Obviously you don't see any issue. You are a hockey fan that love offensive hockey and I don't expect any of us on this board to not want him like many of us wanted Michkov but we are talking about GMs making career decision and team building decisions. Sam Dickinson and Levshunov and to some extent Silayev have very good profile (franchise defenseman potential) for NHL teams as core players. They will be in very high demand and they will be drafted very high. I would not be surprised to see defenseman selected 2, 3 and 4 overall and the forward dropping outside top 5.

Yeah, I don't think anyone would suggest we take an inferior forward because it's what we need. Just that we CLEARLY need forwards and have a surplus of D. So if the choice is there and they're equivalents, take the forward.

And yeah, if we're going to trade up, this is the year to do it. We have a surplus of D to work with, we have picks... use them as currency and move. This is the kind of draft where I think other teams might be willing to do it as there are so many good players in the top ten with no real consensus.
