Top 10 mock off of Bob's mid-season

  1. San Jose Sharks - Macklin Celebrini
  2. Chicago Blackhawks - Artyom Levshunov
  3. Anaheim Ducks - Anton Silayev
  4. Ottawa Senators - Sam Dickinson
  5. Columbus Blue Jackets - Cayden Lindstrom
  6. Buffalo Sabres - Zayne Parekh
  7. Montreal Canadiens - Ivan Demidov
  8. Minnesota Wild - Konsta Helenius
  9. St. Louis Blues - Zeev Buium
  10. Seattle Kraken - Berkly Catton

It's absolutely ridiculous that Ottawa & Buffalo might actually pick before us. Nice f***ing rebuild.

He’ll go higher than seventh.
Mackenzie usually best in the draft business though. He has Demidov at 6. Has good numbers. Would Hughes take him considering the Russian factor. Or go for sure thing in a Catton type? Last year he passed on the better player Michkov, to take lesser player but he knew for sure he would come over

The Habs picked 2 russians last year. It's fair to assume it's not the reason they didn't pick Michkov.

A top scout from our team explained to Basu why they did not liked Michkov in private and this same scout also pumped Demidov to Basu that he was someone he liked a lot.

Does someone actually have a link to the article/podcast where he said that? Not doubting but I would love to hear/read it for myself... just to get a bit of hope, you know.

Nah, Im the driver. I have him right behind Catton.

Cole-Nick-Slaf
Newhook-Dach-Roy

Do we really need a forward? We needed Michkov, sure. If the choice is upgrade slightly on Newhook or a norris D, then the choice is easy

We also have the Hutson chip to upgrade on Alex.
We need an upgrade on Newhook AND Josh Wawa. i want to see them on the third line with Beck eventually.

Off course if we get an elite forward in the draft, one of them, most probably Roy, can be effective/productive on the second line.

If we do, we would be crazy.

As I followed Mailloux last year I had an opportunity to closely watch Dickinson. This kid would immediately become our best prospect. Think a slightly smaller, but far more mobile Hedman. If we don’t take him, we would be crazy. Crazy.

In any event, I think he goes third over all.
I see the 2OA, 3OA and 4OA spots being Dmen.

The forwards after Celebrini are pretty good but i cannot see of of them having more impact on a team than the best D's of the draft. I wouldn't even be surprised to see 4 dmen in the top 5.

I am higher on Wawa than Newhook. I think Newhook would be the perfect 7th forward to pencil in on the 3rd line to start the year. He can move up in case of injury. Kinda like a third line Paul Byron.

You may well be correct. The wild card is the Russian factor. Particularly as it applies to Demidov, who, if he played in the CHL, would be a sure top five pick. Maybe even 2 OA.

As for those who are insistent on our drafting high end forward talent, the perils of being overly influenced by positional need is highlighted by our error in drafting Kotkaniemi (the long sought large center) over Quintin Hughes. You always draft the best player available. Always.

Exactly how i see it.

But what i would love is Habs get to pick one of Demidov, Lindstrom or Catton with our pick and make a trade for a known commodity top 6, dangling our great D depth and some picks.

If it was the case, would you pick Demidov before Lindstrom?

Habs could faceplant the next two seasons for all we know and join them...

It's going to take more than 2 years. Buffalo has been building for like 13 years. Ottawa at least 6. It's only been 2 for Montreal. And, our 1st year was an accidental tank year, as Bergevin thought we were a playoff team.

I didn't mean how long the rebuild will last, I meant that the next 2 years the Habs could go for a regression instead of the slow expected progression.

I posted the link with the timestamp earlier in the thread. There you go :

Buffalo and Ottawa never paid the price to get a valuable goalie. I am sure, if ottawa or Buffalo are willing to overpay for Saros (this is an exemple). They could get him.
At one point, teams need to sacrifice and improve their weakness instead of waiting theirs rookie to grow.

I'll call it right now.

The top 5 is some order of Celebrini Silayev Levshunov Lindstrom and Dickinson.
That's like the expected top 5 at this point.

The big surprise would be if more than one team picking top 5 want a forward or if the team who wins #1 oa decide to take a D because that's a bigger need for them.

Thinking about it, they changed the draft this year and I've been wondering if this will impact the last minute interviews that happened at the draft the previous years.
