I'm not alone in this opinion. Many of the people I listen and pay attention to have said this. So many flawed prospects getting drafted in the top 20.

David Reinbacher 5th oa- Below average tools to be 1st defender taken
Nate Danielsson 9th oa - questionable production and offensive upside
Dalibor Dvorsky 10th oa - Bad skater
Zach Benson 13th oa - Average skater and below 5'10
Brayden Yager 14th oa - Smaller forward that had playmaking issues
Matthew Wood 15th oa - Skating issues
ASP 17th oa - Decision making issues and bad with physicality
Oliver Moore 19th oa - Offensive hockey IQ issues
Eduard Sale 20th oa - Serious consistency issues

That's not to say I dislike these guys more than the ones I didn't mention, but all the guys listed were flawed heavily in one way or another. The guys I didn't mention from 9-20, just didn't have the skill-set you want in such an early pick.

Some of these guys will be big hits. I wanted to mention these flaws when they were draft eligible because this is what really matters. When there are players with this many flaws, the bust rate could be really high.

Fantilli and Carlsson and Michkov (without the war) would have went first in 22, and would go first in 24 in my opinion.

23 is a way better draft than 22 or 24.

You can list issues every single prospect in the draft the way you did.

Benson went 13th and played NHL games as an 18 year old and did fine. He has elite hockey IQ and a great motor. So many ways to spin it.

Pretty naive to think 6-20 in 2024 won't have the same "flaws", especially considering they have a less prominent top 5 ahead of them so any "less flawed" prospect has a better chance of cracking it.

At the end of the day, anyone that doesn't go top 5 in any draft has some sort of reason for it.

You can do this with pretty much every draft. Let’s take guys ranked from 5-16 on Bob Mckenzie’s preseason list (not a perfect representation but he polls actual scouts so it’s as good as we’ll get)

8. Adam Jiricek: questionable toolkit outside of skating
9. Anton Silayev: Basically everything is a question other than the fact that he’s 6’7 and skates well
10. Aron Kiviharju: Skating might not be good enough to make up for size/strength concerns (think Ian Mitchell), now add injury concern
11. Trevor Connelly: Some troubling off ice issues in his past (seems to be corrected, but who knows with 100% certainty?)
12. Igor Chernyshov: questionable production and offensive upside
13. Carter Yakemchuk: Decision making, defensive play, discipline all major questions
15. Zayne Parekh: Pretty much allergic to his own zone
16. Henry Mews: kind of a jack of all trades, master of none. Questions about ultimate upside

EVERY Draft has players like this going in the early-mid first round. If they didn’t drafting wouldn’t be considered an inexact science

Six RD over 6'2" ranked here- Levshunov (4), Yakemchuk (6), Jiricek (8), Elick (13), Emery (21), Badinka (23). All considered strong skaters. Plus Parekh (12) and Mews (27) as smaller RD

Also interesting to see Helenius as low as 11- way too early to dream like this but I would be thrilled if the Blackhawks could grab, say, Levshunov and then somehow get Helenius with Tampa's pick

Pronman list Celebrini as a tier 1 (bubble elite/allstar), Silayev and Eiserman as tier 2 (all star), and Levishunov, Demidov, & Yakemchuk as tier 3 (bubble all star/top of lineup). I can't see us not being in the top 6 in the draft (at best the 4th worst record and getting jumped by 2 in the lotto).

He is really high on Silayev. Basically said he alone can turn this class from average to above average and challenge Celebrini for #1 overall. Already calling him the best defenseman in this class, especially by upside.

Elite prospects released their top 32 yesterday too. Cayden Lindstrom at 4. I was really hoping we could get him with the Tampa pick. He has all the tools you want in a power forward.

Unfortunately I think he ends up going top 10 if he keeps up this pace.

Michael Brandsegg Nygard and Helenius are Davidsons type. Maybe one of them slips to the Tampa pick?

Im not as big of a Lindstrom fan. I don't see a lot of offensive creativity and hockey IQ. Just seems like he's physically dominating junior. Another Lawson Crouse.

I mean he is physically dominating junior. But his toolkit is impressive.

I’d take him with the Tampa pick.

List of players that physically dominated junior is long. I would take him with the Tampa pick too but he won't be there for that. I still think taking him top 10 is way too risky.

Yea I'm not taking Lindstrom with the Hawks pick. But man.. that size and speed combo.. he reminds me of Byfield in junior. You can interpret that as a good or bad thing especially with the questionable IQ.

Tampa pick? 100% in if he lasts that long.

Why is being a big, physically dominant player a detriment? His numbers aren’t a byproduct of being big. He’s fast as hell, has a good shot and solid skill.

I’m certainly not suggesting taking him in the top 5.

But I think he’s going to skyrocket up draft boards the rest of the year.

We’ll see. Agree to disagree

Habs guy on the board posting about their prospects (this time Fowler) but there's alot of Levshunov in this vid for anyone who hasn't seen the kid play yet to kind of get an idea.

In terms of guys who bullied competition at juniors and then got to the NHL and struggled mightily when they couldn't physically dominate you dont have to look any further than Lafreniere. Still an NHL player, but its easy to push guys around in junior until youre playing 30 year olds.
