Man, Tij looks like his dad.

What’s his overall game like? Straight skill guy? Or skill with a physical edge like his dad?

Athletic podcast did a mock draft for teams in the lottery and this is where they had us go. The reasoning was what you imagine it was. They absolutely don’t need small skilled winger…but that was true last year and he’s playing on the team already. They take the best player available and it’s going to be a small skill winger a lot of the times. Then joked that maybe they’ll have some of them start playing defense. At least I think it was a joke.

Watching Iginla and I'm even more certain that them not drafting Cristall was the right thing. Man, that kid just does not do things that make me think of a winning NHLer.

Cristall is the prototypical Oooo Arghh player.

He's the antithesis of Charlie Elick who I love everything he does UNTIL he gers the puck on his stick and then it's a hand grenade, hot potato etc

I haven't been paying much attention -- will we need to win a lottery to get Catton? Is there a consensus top 5 yet?

My experience is that mid-season rankings tend to see players I like shuffle up the board.

The top pick is clear this year, but then it gets murkier. I expect Lindstrom to go very high based on what people want to project - the big, power #1 center if he peaks. Demidov is ripping up the MHL and if things weren't muddled with KHL and Russia, he'd be in that 2-3-4 area as well IMO.

At the moment, Bob's scout poll has Catton at 10th. I expect him to rise a bit and there could be a bump depending on how he measures at the draft combine since he's listed at 5'11".

Further, I have been looking at more contact driven players or guys with size which isn't how the Sabres operate - they work up who they think is BPA and seem to stick to it at the top of the draft - so I've been taking in Brandsegg-Nygard (Bob has him 20th) and Greentree (Bob - 17) on the wing, tape on Lindstrom (Bob - 5) who looks like a guy who will PLD/Byfield to near the top of the heap.

There are a lot of various types of defensemen too. I plan on taking in more Michigan State just to see Levshunov (Bob 3), not just for more Strbak peaks. Silayev (Bob 2) I haven't seen since real early in the year but he's enormous. I've caught Parekh (Bob - 9) a couple times for parts of the last two Saginaw games and he's got some of that Mintyukov entertainment value - he draws one's eye. I should probably spend some time on Dickenson too, haven't watched much of London that I recall. I find watching OHL games kicks up some things for me - used to be in those rinks when I lived in WNY as a hockey hobby in other times, so I take in more Q and more 'dub.

I'm going to disagree with Austin on one point:

I don't see this like 2017....2017 had a slight surprise at pick 1 when Hischier went before Patrick. I don't see any scenario where Celebrini doesn't go #1 this year.....and then it's a "beauty is in the eye of the team" draft......so to me, this feels an awful lot 2016 when Matthews was the no-doubt #1 followed by a mismash of wingers and defensemen (2017 was also more center-rich than this draft appears to be at the top...which again parallels the 2016 draft a little more closely).

Been hearing buzz about Greentree, I want to start watching him too.

I don't see any great traits that jump out. He's a nice all arounder but you wonder if his size gives him a disproportionate advantage

He does well making plays in traffic and is wise enough to get to the net. The feet are concerning.

Spent the other night on Yakemchuk and Edmonton got paddled. I didn’t make any notes other than “oh… no” for one sequence of his. Need to watch more.

Is there a high level power forward type prospect available at 7-9 where we inevitably draft?
