LJ Mooney hurt in the Notre Dame game yesterday after a big open ice hit from Tyler Carpenter.
That’s going to be the problem with LJ. Does he have the skating, evasiveness, and skill to overcome his diminutive stature? I just don’t think he does. I’m not sure if there is a legit pro player there and I’m a fan on Mooney.

It was a dirty hit, so not sure it’s the best way to assess those things. Look how big Laine is. He got injured with the same type of hit.

Fair questions about if Mooney has those attributes for the NHL, but pro? There’s a lot of pro hockey leagues. I’m pretty confident in saying he’ll make money playing hockey, if he wants.

Why wouldn't he be able to? Season will be over by then, unless the U.S.A. brass is pissed because he bolted.
Sorry, I should've been more precise. Will he play? Is there any type of high probability?

There isn't that much precedent for a situation like his. There've been players that left the NTDP for college, but not many recently, and he isn't a no-doubt top 5 pick where he can afford to take off big tournaments as some of those players can and not be hurt by it.

If offered a spot he will most certainly play. I don't think that he feels that he would be to good for the competition.

The question for me is will USA Hockey offer him an invite???

This is just a bad team right now. I didn’t think they’d be as good as the 22-23 team, but it’s been bad so far. They are now 3-6 on the season. This team currently makes extremely poor decisions defensively and does not have the offensive firepower to compensate. Very frustrating team to watch.

I stand by my opinion that Cole McKinney has the highest likelihood of being a good NHL player. He plays a strong two-way game and makes a lot of good heads up plays. But, he probably won’t be a superstar.

Conrad Fondrk has good potential. He has good speed and some skill. You can definitely see him playing in the NHL in some capacity, but I don’t see him as a play driver.

William Belle always catches my eye out there. He works hard, has good size, moves well, and has a very good shot. He lacks the offensive instincts and overall skill you’d want in a guy who could play top 6. But, I like this guy.

Jack Murtagh looked good in the games I saw early on but he’s been hurt.

I just do not take seriously any list that currently has William Moore and Charlie Trethewey in the early-mid first round.

Charlie Thethewey is extremely frustrating to watch. His decision making in the offensive zone is absolutely baffling at times. He has a good shot, but his utilization is extremely poor. He will take nothing shots instead of looking for an open man. He has decent size and mobility, but I don’t see a first round talent.

fact people think Amico is slam dunk for end of first round i still say i don’t see it all . the defense doesn’t look great to me - any of them . i still see murtaugh being highest pick from this group -

What a big indictment on the regular players. The fill-ins almost never score. Bring in a guy who’ll be drafted higher or in the same range as a lot of the players and in his second game a hat trick. Anyway, maybe it gets him a spot on the team at the U18 worlds if he doesn’t have any commitments at that point and has a good season.

I’m not sure if he’ll get drafted, but one player I’d target late is Rich Gallant. He’s a small player but very high energy, great motor, and some underrated skill.

Also, William Belle would be a player I would target. I love this guy. He’s not going to drive play, but he is huge, has good speed, plays a physical game, and has a good shot. You just see a good bottom-six projection out of him. I would begin considering him maybe mid-late 2nd round.

Watched a decent portion of the game against Harvard last night and no one really stands out for the NTDP. Amico is intriguing as a big right shot D, Tretheway looks solid. McKinney and Moore weren't anything special, Horcoff is an interesting longer term project.

They miss Mooney (and Potter from last year) big time.

Murtagh wasn’t playing either. All the big name players have basically been rotating injuries. Would be nice for them to get a stretch where everyone (or at least all the best players) is healthy.

I wouldn't be too shocked if a good chunk of 08s are replacing the 07s by the time the IIHF U18s roll around.

I’m excited for this game against BC. Honestly, I have watched so much USNTDP this year so far because it’s so hard to rank a lot of the players on the team. It seems like every time I watch this team, a different player stands out and the player I liked in the game prior is invisible.

I love Cole McKinney against USHL teams, but haven’t loved him against college competition. I like Fondrk’s tools, but he really hasn’t been all that productive and doesn’t consistently drive play. Moore started the year very slow but doesn’t show some decent flashes. Hafele looks downright dominant on some shifts and then just fades into the background.

Not that it was a surprise, but BC really dogwalked them. It was 7-1 with 11 minutes to go in the second period before BC really let off the gas.

any updates on this group draft wise - looks like underperformance across the board .

McKenzie preseason Top 20 list had William Moore at 11, Charlie Tretheway at 15. McKinney, Mooney, Murtagh, Amico, Bracco, Fondrk, Horcoff will all be drafted as well.
