great effort against michigan even though got outshot wide margin . Gallant is small but he’s been looking great lately in my view - plays hard . just lost to Adrian which i think is div 3 5-3 yesterday .

from the mock drafts i’ve seen is really it looks everybody has Moore in the top 20 pick . tretheway - murtaugh it looks posible late first round and Amici , mooney, fondryk , mckinney going second or third round .

I don't get the hype around Moore. He has some talent, yes, but he's nothing exceptionnal and doesn't show a lot of effort out there. We would not even talk about him if he was in the OHL. But I have to say, his game against Michigan was by far my best viewing of him (and he was playing on the wing). Let's hope it continues that way, but still not a first round candidate for me.

Same with Trethewey, interesting tools, but questionable hockey sense and execution. There are other RHD's with a similar profile that are much more effective than him but are not in any Top-32.

Murtagh is the only one I still have in my first round at this point.

I had Fondrk for a while, but the inconsistency and lack of finishing touch make him slide. Same with Amico, I like the profile and the tools, but the offensive upside is non-existent. McKinney, meh. Horcoff, meh.

Andrew O'Neill might be one to keep an eye on...

i’m with you and i think anybody watches that team agrees somewhat . i really think murtaugh is the safest bet on the team because of the way he plays . i see him second third line guy in nhl for 10 years plus . moore you can argue has the most upside but also the most downside too . moore is simply Canada bias in scouting .

Some of the mocks are still catching up with the results of the season. It tends to take a while before the gears of moving guys down (or up) really starts clicking. Nobody wants to be accused of making rash calls or doing 180’s from their pre-season notions based on 10 games.

Once we get into the winter and have more track record and tournaments to base off of, you’ll start to see the guys underperforming dropping like rocks.

That’s why I love HFB and threads like this because posters who watch and know their stuff can really give you some insight before the rankings can pivot to reflect it. It’s not a problem with “rankings” per se, it’s just early in a season they can become outdated very quickly and if you are just looking at a bunch of random ranks on a player’s EP page, you have no idea how old those rankings are, for the most part…unless you do some digging.

I don’t think there is some sort of “bias” to rank Moore highly. He was just highly thought of before the season so it’s going to take more and longer for him to start slipping in a way that may match the eye test of intelligent observers. If there is a bias - it’s the same bias you get with college football or basketball pre/season rankings and the affect of wins and losses tending to take longer to influence where a team is ranked for the teams that start out the gate higher.

I think Amico has a little offensive upside. He skates very well and likes to carry the puck. He’s shown some ability to make plays with the puck. Yet, because they want to get everyone drafted he’s never going to get PP time because of course Schock and Bracco need PP time to be useful. If Amico was playing USHL or CHL on a team that doesn’t have as much draft talent, I feel he’d have a lot more points than he gets.

I have to say Amico has made some very good stretch passes and a few intriguing carries in my recent viewings, better than most of the other oversize defencemen in this draft. I have no doubt he will play in the NHL, but for now I don't picture him in a different role than a 5-6th stay-at-home mobile dman, which is good, but maybe not with a first pick. That being said, he is my 2nd favorite NTDP player.

The USA vs CHL Challenge is going to be a good test for him and Trethewey that sometimes have issues against heavy pressure, and Canada is going to exploit that. Canada has a fast and hard-working team (and skilled..), any NTDP player that will shine during that challenge will rise in the rankings. Let's hope that happens for a few of these guys.

EDIT:
I completely forgot about Ben Kevan. He is the highest on my list, close to Murtagh. I think these two could perform well against the CHL, we'll see.

Anybody who watched Bracco the past 2-3 years knew he should not be on NTDP. I'm hoping for the days when nepotism ceases to exist in the program because soon we will get left behind.

Yes , it has gotten to political in the selection with a lot head scratches on the selection. In addition the new CHL Ncaa commit rule I believe hurts the NTDP dramatically . Just think Draft year the scouts want you in the top league playing against top competion and that’s CHL .

Personally I think the NTDP model has run its course, and isn’t t what it once was.
If it was more than just a who's who popularity contest it could have great potential. Lot of problems that we can harp on, but one of the big ones is their scouts are lazy and only go to the big tournaments where the same 6-8 teams play.

They already play better competition than a conventional CHL schedule when you combine NCAA, international play, and USHL.
