Laughton has looked pretty good so far in tonight's game against a terrible penguins lineup. Scored a goal, finishing checks, seems like average speed.
I don't have a problem with Schenn. I put his name out early in the season. Full NTC is asking for someone to choose Winnipeg. Color me less than optimistic there. Especially if Mc Crimmon asks him with some of the Blues core thereWhat's Schenn's skating like these days. He definitely used to have above average speed but I haven't really watched him this year.
Edit: According to NHL EDGE it's still well above average so we wouldn't lose speed with him at C.
As I stated previously, I like Laughton but the Jets have much bigger needs than he can fill. I would sooner see the Jets take whatever asset Laughton would return and apply it towards a true 2C.Laughton has looked pretty good so far in tonight's game against a terrible penguins lineup. I'll go a step further and say they get Provorov too, and become our Wollerton. With the famous words...I don't have a problem with Schenn. I put his name out early in the season. Excellent postI've been scrolling through the lineups of teams that are clear sellers, and it's slim pickings, honestly. I'm starting to see why Chevy would be kicking tires on Laughton. The whole east is still technically alive and has a shot, so there goes most of our selling market.
Realistically, our trade currency is our 2025 1st & 3rd, plus Rashevsky. I still don't see a situation where Chevy sells any prospect that hasn't requested a trade.
Mittelstadt is likely to be traded, but Colorado won't trade him to the Jets for futures. That serves them no purpose whatsoever.
Here's the list of centers that we may want to look at, given the circumstances:
Gus Nyquist [NSH] - 3.185M with an expiring contract. Not a center apparently, but worth a try since he put up 75 pts last year
Pavel Zacha [BOS] - 4.75M with two years left. Good stats and fits the role, Boston would likely want to keep him for a rebuild process
Morgan Geekie [BOS] - 2M, RFA. Same as above.
Trevor Zegras [ANA] - 5.75M with another year left. The cost would be steep, although Anaheim would be willing to move on from him. Worth a try?
Yanni Gourde [SEA] - 5.17M with an expiring contract. He doesn't put up a lot of points but he has good numbers on a poor Seattle team. Good depth with championship pedigree if there is nobody else, would Seattle sell?
Ryan Donato [CHI] - 2M with an expiring contract. Putting up good points [36 in 52 games] on a terrrrrrible Chicago team.
Brock Nelson, obviously
Defense
Ivan Provorov [CBJ] - pure rental LD, if Columbus can't re-sign him.
Henri Jokiharju [BUF] - pure rental RD
Brian Dumoulin [ANA] - pure rental LD
Dante Fabbro [CBJ] - pure rental RD
Ryan Lindgren [NYR] - pure rental LD
Matt Grzelcyk [PIT] - pure rental LD, even though Morrissey once took a suspension injuring him

Popcorn time for Apples. Are we trading Appleton in the Provorov deal?
Wonder if we see a signing or two during the 4 nations cup. Perhaps even with our beloved Jets.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Nelson is resigned by Lou before the TDL. Which means more teams going after fewer players potentially, raising the prices. Getting a deal done early might be a good strategy.
I very much like Kupari as well and he does have hands of stone, however that’s slowly getting better. He reminds me of Lowry about 4 years ago, who couldn’t score, but now Kupari is slowly starting to score. I think it’s a matter of confidence and gripping the stick to tight. When he does shoot, it’s right on the net, and in a pretty good spot. If Kupari could start to score, and start picking off the corners of the net, we’d have a real star player, because he’s a lightning fast power skater. I like what I see in him, and I’d give him some time to come into his own.I've been quite surprised by Kupari...nothing flashy ...hands of stone but physical fast and aggressive and defensively sound
PLEASE STAY FAR AWAY FROM MIDDLINGSTATS. His compete level sucks . Loses so many board battles it’s not even funny.Laughton imo is not the play at all. Schenn, Nelson and Mittelstadt could theoretically be an upgrade on Namestnikov at 2C but I think Names is a genuinely better player than Laughton.
Yeah I don't have an issue with him as depth but not as a key piece and only if he is dirt cheap, we already have a much better Laughton at home in our captain.I mean if the Jets upgrade 2C and 3rd pairing LHD, then still want Laughton as a bottom six forward sure go for it assuming the price is right (factoring in his term).
People might not want to hear it but I would wager that quite a lot of the players in the league feel the same way about pride night, personally IDGAF what his religious beliefs are, if he fits in the room with the boys and can help us win them I am all for it.How they manifested themselves on Pride Night, specifically
You can't make everyone happy, but I suspect fans would overwhelmingly welcome Provorov. How they manifested themselves on Pride Night, specifically
Nope. Rosters are expanded after the deadline. As @Mad Dog Tannen pointed out, we would need to move a roster player for every player acquired. Either included in the deal or waived. I don't think anyone on our roster clears waivers.
McLeod would be a great addition, but I doubt the Sabres would trade him unless the Jets put a lot on the table. If Chevy can’t or won’t land a true upgrade for #2 centre and is focussed on depth additions, why not Ryan McLeod from Buffalo? He’ll be an RFA after this season. He’d be more of a long term piece and not just a rental.
He’s good on face-offs, has decent size, and speed, capable of playing up and down the lineup (like a younger Namestnikov) and has the experience of going to the Stanley Cup Final last season.
I think he’d be a fantastic addition. Easier trade to make than Cozens (contract $$$) or Tuch (NTC)
Other notables include …
ROR ( Only traded if he wants out)
Nelson (will he be available?)
Sissons
Laughton
Frederic
B. Schenn
Faksa
As for the defense, landing a Parayko or Dobson would be great, Jets are likely only looking at veteran depth. Someone who can ideally replace Stanley or at least force Arniel’s hand to rotate Stanley in the press box more frequently. Potential list includes the likes of ….
Maatta
Dumoulin
Ferraro
Lindgren
Seeler
Walman (not likely available )
Oleksiak (rumoured but NTC)
Ristolainen ( Please No)
L. Schenn
Savard (is he cooked?)
Gimme McLeod and Dumoulin and I’ll be satisfied.
I would give up a lot to acquire Dobson....unfortunately I think it would have to include PerfettiMore than happy to run with our 12 F up front into the playoffs!
Let’s get a stud defender like Dobson, and call it a day !
1st, lambert, ville/Stan ?
Yeah, but does Kevyn Adams really know what he’s doing there.? I think Chevy could take advantage of him.McLeod would be a great addition, but I doubt the Sabres would trade him unless the Jets put a lot on the table.
Yes to Dumoulin.
Would be a great luxury having Morrissey- Samberg- Provorov down the left side and he wouldn’t be out of place in the top 4 if someone went down with injury. You can't make everyone happy, but I suspect fans would overwhelmingly welcome Provorov.
Provorov would be an improvement on Stanley but he'd be a 3rd pair D. I think his trade cost would be too high for that role. Dumoulin would be much cheaper and probably add as much value. But the reality is that Arniel wants toughness in the line-up beyond Lowry, and even if the Jets acquire a LHD he's likely to use Stanley on RD to keep him in the lineup.Would be a great luxury having Morrissey- Samberg- Provorov down the left side and he wouldn’t be out of place in the top 4 if someone went down with injury.
