What's Schenn's skating like these days. He definitely used to have above average speed but I haven't really watched him this year.

Edit: According to NHL EDGE it's still well above average so we wouldn't lose speed with him at C.
I don't have a problem with Schenn. I put his name out early in the season. Full NTC is asking for someone to choose Winnipeg. Color me less than optimistic there. Especially if Mc Crimmon asks him with some of the Blues core there

Laughton has looked pretty good so far in tonight's game against a terrible penguins lineup. Scored a goal, finishing checks, seems like average speed.
As I stated previously, I like Laughton but the Jets have much bigger needs than he can fill. I would sooner see the Jets take whatever asset Laughton would return and apply it towards a true 2C.

I mean if the Jets upgrade 2C and 3rd pairing LHD, then still want Laughton as a bottom six forward sure go for it assuming the price is right (factoring in his term).

I'll go a step further and say they get Provorov too, and become our Wollerton. With the famous words...

Which would be similar to 2019 when Chevy went after Stone, but when there was no deal to be made, pivoted to Hayes. Hopefully doesn't go for another Hayes though.

NTCs are going to make it a harder market for Chevy to shop in.

I've been scrolling through the lineups of teams that are clear sellers, and it's slim pickings, honestly. I'm starting to see why Chevy would be kicking tires on Laughton. The whole east is still technically alive and has a shot, so there goes most of our selling market.

Realistically, our trade currency is our 2025 1st & 3rd, plus Rashevsky. I still don't see a situation where Chevy sells any prospect that hasn't requested a trade.

Mittelstadt is likely to be traded, but Colorado won't trade him to the Jets for futures. That serves them no purpose whatsoever.

Here's the list of centers that we may want to look at, given the circumstances:
Gus Nyquist [NSH] - 3.185M with an expiring contract. Not a center apparently, but worth a try since he put up 52 pts last year
Pavel Zacha [BOS] - 4.75M with two years left. Good stats and fits the role, Boston would likely want to keep him for a rebuild process
Morgan Geekie [BOS] - 2M, RFA. Same as above.
Trevor Zegras [ANA] - 5.75M with another year left. The cost would be steep, although Anaheim would be willing to move on from him. Worth a try?
Yanni Gourde [SEA] - 5.17M with an expiring contract. He doesn't put up a lot of points but he has good numbers on a poor Seattle team. Good depth with championship pedigree if there is nobody else, would Seattle sell?
Ryan Donato [CHI] - 2M with an expiring contract. Putting up good points [36 in 52 games] on a terrrrrrible Chicago team.
Brock Nelson, obviously

Defense
Ivan Provorov [CBJ] - pure rental LD, if Columbus can't re-sign him.
Henri Jokiharju [BUF] - pure rental RD
Brian Dumoulin [ANA] - pure rental LD
Dante Fabbro [CBJ] - pure rental RD
Ryan Lindgren [NYR] - pure rental LD
Matt Grzelcyk [PIT] - pure rental LD, even though Morrissey once took a suspension injuring him
