Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

Absolutely not.
People need to stop trying to trade Salo. Besides being a very good prospect, he is the only RHD we have who looks like ever making the NHL. We could even say he is the only Dman we have, but I have a good feeling about Freij, at least so far.

We still have a flawed right side and it isn't getting any younger.

I don't mind missing out on Cozens at all. I think he is a big risk who is already being paid like a proven top 6 player. You might say he is a high risk, high reward gamble but I don't think we are in a position to gamble like that. We don't have enough assets to be able to afford the loss. Never bet money you can't afford to lose. But regardless of the risk attached, I don't trade Salo. The only way I do that is if we are getting a good, young RHD, with term, coming back in the deal. Buffalo doesn't have that guy.

Maybe, if we are talking Dobson from NYI I consider Salo. I would prefer to be adding another RHD to him, not just trading a younger one for a more proven one. But you have to give to get.

BTW, I just noticed Dobson on LTIR. Isles are making room for something? Someone going to acquire Dobson and leave him on LTIR until the TD? Or is his injury really that bad?
I'm not trying trade Salo at all, but he'd be a reasonable ask from Buffalo in a Cozens deal - given their needs

I'm just trying to not be like Habs fans and suggest trades for other teams' valuable pieces and keep all our good ones off the table lol

I've been giving it some thought, and I honestly don't see any reason to be trading our 1st round pick for a pure rental outside of Brock Nelson and maybe Gus Nyquist. Other than a 2C which doesn't seem to be available, we need some solid defensive, checking depth - which you don't pay 1st rounders for.

If we're talking pure rentals, here's what I do:
-Brian Dumoulin from Anaheim for a 3rd round pick ($3.15 million, UFA)
-Brandon Tanev from Seattle for a couple late rounders ($3.5 million, UFA)
-Ryan Donato from Chicago for next year's 3rd round pick ($2.0 million, UFA)

I make the 1st available in a package for Zacha or Geekie, or if we find a good fit that's likely to extend. Not having 2nd round picks is really hobbling our rental buying power.

Salomonsson has the look of a good top-4 RHD. He's back to his strong play with the Moose (2 more assists so far today). I would like to see him get some NHL exposure this season, somehow. I don't think he's far away from making the leap. He could probably play on the 3rd pair now.

He wasn't too far short of making the team out of TC. And he has improved since then.

Fair enough, but Salo is an overpay for Cozens. Buffalo would need to add.

Donato is having a career season playing for that bad team in Chicago. He's not been generating any buzz, maybe he is Chevy's surprise pickup for this season. Well it wouldn't be a surprise now I guess.

Sabres have already said they don't want prospects or picks, they want NHL ready talent, I suppose Salo could theoretically be ready to play but unproven at the NHL level.

I imagine from us they would want Perfetti + Iafallo or similar and honestly they are in dreamland, Cozens value is low right now and I think in their mind they either get a good return with NHL'ers or they just hold onto him as their GM said he is not actively shopping him and only willing to deal if the price is right.

With that contract, I wouldn't pay an awful lot for him. I certainly wouldn't do Perfetti straight up, much less add. Perfetti is scoring more now and getting better. Cozens is a year older, scoring less and appears to be getting worse.

Precisely hence why I said they are dreaming, I imagine the other teams inquiring are getting the same response (ie proven NHL talent) and no one is willing to give it up for such a risk in Cozens.

I'm sorry Mort but I am not sure Salomonsson is even a top 100 prospect in the NHL right now. He's on the border there. We like our own guys, and we definitely need the prospect given the state of our defense. But Cozens is going to get a good return if he gets put on the market. Easier to say no deal. The Sabres would not add.

I feel like that has become more of an excuse and crutch and less of a hurdle.
Any player that wants to win can see how good this team is and how close they are to being a true Cup contender..just 2 players away.
I know many will be all…I don’t like the cold winters, even though I play a winter sport…sissies…but I have doubts it’s as rampant as it’s made out to be.
Especially with older guys over 30…they’re not uprooting their families to move there for a year or 2..they’ll likely just commute when they can and leave in the offseason.
Almost every player that does play in WPG says how great of a place it is to play and be, and they would pass that info along to others.
It's not just the players it's the wives and girlfriends that don't want to live in Winnipeg during our winters and you can't blame them for that. You have #FIRE CHEVY in your avatar name so obviously you think someone can do a better job as GM of the 1st place team in the entire NHL and i absolutely don't agree. Chevy is trying to put together a competitive team on the ice with one arm tied behind his back compared to almost every other GM and we have made the playoffs 12 out of the 14 years we have been back in the league. I am extremely happy with Chevy, we could do way worse than him.

Anyone know what’s going on with Blake wheeler? I’m not saying I like this call - but could he be a surprise deadline acquisition?

I think he retired unofficially. He didn’t add anything to NY’s run. I don’t see any point whatsoever for us to try a guy who hasn’t played all year, and was out of gas last year.

I know the Jets sometimes do bring back old faces. But Wheeler is literally just an old face now. Can't see the team doing it.
I’m actually more than 0% worried about this, but less than 10%.

The last I heard of him he wasn’t retiring and working on rehab and getting into game shape at the start of the season.

He was pretty effective for the rangers last year when weighing in his contract.

There are a ton of players in the Jets locker room that are friends with him, he could be an improvement on the fourth line, and a really cheap add.

I hope I am way off base here and making up a wild story.

Soooo , 100,000,000 Canadian gets you 70,000,000 million US imagine throwing roughly 40,000,000 dollars out the window like Chipman and company are right now. Man that would suck.
