Even if the Jets are built to somehow dominate in the regular season while also being unable to compete in the playoffs, bringing in guys like Laughton and Ristolainen isn't likely to change much.

Everyone's basing the "not built for playoffs" off of a two series, 10 game sample and fall back on old Don Cherry bromides of "need more toughness" to explain it all. That's probably bullshit.
Sometimes you are what you show, how many changes since those 2 series,I'm not asking them to play like the brodstreet bullies, but toughness is measured in more than going through a wall, daneko and potvin used to talk about the mental and physical toughness needed in every shift to wear the opposition down, you can't have all flyby's in your game.

Now that Nelson and Cozens are done, you move away from the 2C talk and go with what you already got there. No one else available is anywhere close to worth it. Switch to other upgrades for the team like replacing a weak winger and/or bottom pairing defence.

There is no way Nelson gets traded for the return he did if Canada was on the NTC list. Colorado needed to outbid the best offer - likely Chevy - and paid with their best asset.

That said, still 3 hours to go and a ton of cap space. Winnipeg deal time is approaching, I’ll guess Tanev for a 5th is the least we do.

Its pretty clear that Stan is pur 4th/5th Dman and any trade just bumps Miller out which prob makes us worse... i dont see it but the team does

I honestly dont see much our there that improves our second line.. hope chevy doesnt make a trade just for the sake of it - our bottom six is fine...

Playoff hopes depend on Scheif's drive and on Sambergs health... and Helle showing up - maybe Tuch helps but im just not seeing much value adds right now

RE: Brandon Tanev

A high-energy player who brings it on the forecheck and recklessly throws himself in front of pucks on the penalty kill, Brandon Tanev has a lot of the qualities contenders are looking for. Known for playing a grindy game that wears on opponents, he leads all Seattle forwards in short-handed ice time. He certainly doesn’t back down when faced with a contested piece of ice. As a bonus, he also comes with 46 games of Stanley Cup playoff experience and the Kraken are willing to retain up to 50 percent of his remaining contract.

**

I wouldn't mind Tanev. The Jets PK has been questionable all season, and any improvement on it would be good for the playoffs.

our bottom six is not fine if... our 4th line provides zero offense, we need more especially if we don't end up with a 2c

also it's pretty clear that our top 4 d are jmo/demlo/pionk/samberg, stanley would be #5 at best

Every big insider seemed to have a different story on Nelson. Rental, etc. Some like Dreger were saying he was willing to sign an extension in Winnipeg.

Old news, no interest in that price, but just a very bizarre situation.
NYI played/used WPG essentially and got a heftier return for him elsewhere.

If Chevy pivots from 2C to wing, the winger I’d have interest in is Rakell.
Good stats with term at a good cap hit, that would fit with Ehlers and leave money available to still address the 2C in the off season.
Then focus on depth D.

Did missing out on Nelson put Chevy into a tail spin…been really quiet

Yet another player with trade protection.
