You're welcome to cite examples of the cheap 4th line skill players that all 32 NHL teams should be rounding out their rosters with.
They have players on their AHL team at this exact moment who are statistically vastly superior to Deslauriers, like Lyksell.

Or are you trying to say it is literally impossible to find a better 4th liner than Nicky Fists?

The Flyers are 8-18 in Lycksell's 26 career NHL games, in which he has 6 points. What a difference maker.

Also, you didn't answer my question: do you think there are no better players available to replace Deslauriers?
I don't think replacing Deslauriers on the 4th line with the Lycksells and Mayhews of the world means jack.

And it always amuses me how many fans beat on the bottom-of-the-lineup players as their whipping boys, as if the difference between Deslauriers and Lycksell on the 4th line, or Erik Johnson and Helge Grans as the 6 or 7, are the crux of why they're struggling.

1) I disagree there are only "marginal" upgrades available to absolute dusters like Deslauriers across the league

2) Even if there were only marginal upgrades, why wouldn't you want to make them? "Can't make big improvements so I'd rather make no improvements at all" is an incredibly stupid philosophy for building a competitive roster.

On a team with so little star power, or a viable path/staff to find it - every piece does indeed matter. If the Flyers had a MacKinnon, and Rantanen they could choose to make mistakes elsewhere.

They have willingly chosen arguably the hardest path to building something worth a damn.

We have one Matvei Michkov. I’ll overvalue, and add Travis Konecny. That’s it. They’ve already blown a top 5 pick with Gauthier, whether through their own actions pissing off the player - or poorly scouting his commitment. When time was to trade him, they further doubled down on f***ing up by going after a turd in Drysdale.

When you fight so hard as an org to never bottom out, you leave yourself such little room for error.

I was more excited about the “Hextall era” because that at least had more talented pieces, even if it didn’t come to fruition. What they are doing today is just bullshit.

Chat here sure, but the Oilers, Jets, and a host of other teams take my viewing time instead. Zero regrets. f*** the Flyers.

The cognitive dissonance of "I refuse to think this team should bottom out and do a tear down rebuild" combined with "I refuse to think marginally upgrading players is a worthwhile endeavor" is mind blowing.

Literally every path is bad except the one that keeps the Flyers in perpetual mediocrity. Give us mid, or give us death.

For years that has been the excuse used to defend management.

You can't easily get top-6 fowards for your 4th line. So why bother upgrading them? Checkmate

DeLo has played 7 of 19 games, averaging 6:05 minutes a game.
I think that is a step below "fourth line."

Lycksell would replace Richard or Foerster.

Because there is nothing he will not say or do to defend the team.

In another thread he is pretending Frost and Couturier are comparable because they are top six players. That's it. That's the whole reasoning.
I like the one where a 27 year old in his 9th season isn't enough of a vet... he needs to be over 30 which means year 11!

If he replaced Delo the minutes would be different all around. I don't understand how that's hard to figure out.
Yes. They'd take minutes away from other prospects.
And Lycksell would play 10 minutes a night instead of 20.

Right now they have more than enough wings, including a number of centers who should move to wing. Calling up another wing from LHV just means shuffling players around.
The problem is LHV has no NHL caliber centers.
And they've already called up any NHL caliber D-men, unless you're eager to see Ginning and McDonald.

See that's not the way it works. You take minutes from vets 1-2 minutes a game here and there and get that for the prospects.

Oh you're actually going with team wins again, after your Hagg humiliation? Really?

You really learned nothing from that experience?
Well, let's see. We have people asserting that these marginal bottom-of-the-lineup decisions are so important. So, yeah, wins and losses with these allegedly better options in the lineup are relevant, no?
