Who the hell's Emil Andrae

After drafting York, Andrae was/has been the next best D prospect in the system. Then Bonk got drafted two years ago. Andrae is also a listed reason from Briere as to why the Flyers did not draft Buium.

At 5'9 he plays bigger than he is tall.

There is no risk here to be fair - Danny COMPLETELY whiffed on this one.

Yeah, I don't know how you can phrase it like this; there is no magic ball to predict transition from KHL -> NHL, and goalies are voodoo in general. Sure, after he got sent to Siberia, which cannot NOT affect anyone's mental and actual game, the risk got higher, but... It's just another unfortunate chapter in PHI goalie pain, not some sort of Ghost <-> Risto - esque GM blunder.

But that's just my opinion.

It's a rebuilding move, gamble some cap room on a short-term contract, hoping he'll regain the form he had before he was exiled.

Since they're not using that room for much the next two seasons, and cap room has far less trade value with a rising cap than 2-3 years ago, it's a reasonable gamble.

If it panned out, you had a bridge to the young goalies and a potential trade chip next summer.

You think literally every move Briere makes is a rebuilding move, so maybe you're not the best judge.

Feds was a PR move. Making the boys look good to have saved a hostage, and put them in the good books with potentially other young Russian talent.

I don’t actually blame them for it, but let’s call it what it was.

Come on, how many Flyer ticket holders had a clue who Fedotov was?
People here obsess on minor transactions that are ignored by most of the fan base.
