Yet if they had a bunch of big poor skating defenseman with zero offensive upside that would have not stopped them from drafting another one.
Can’t have too many smallish defenseman who can move the puck.
Flyers hockey
They've picked them up cheap, Seeler SFA, McDonald 6th rd, Sotheran 5th rd.

These are good bets in later rounds if they can skate, bet on a big guy with a frame that can fill out who might become a decent puck handler.

Risto was supposed to be a two way D-man, oh well.
Morin at #11, even if his knee was fine, he couldn't puck handle well enough to be a top 4 guy.

Teams rarely have more than 2-3 offensively skilled D-men who can move the puck.
Even Colorado traded a 2nd rd pick and a young D-man (Helleson) for Manson (6-3 218).
What you don't want to do is take one dimensional muckers at the top of the draft.

Im wondering if any of you can help me find a video. I remember a downfall parody video where the fuhrer is complaining about the Flyers front office and roster. Anybody else remember that? Or was it El Risitas, that laughing Italian guy?

Delo plays 6-7 minutes a night at ES. So you don't have to carve out minutes for him from other forwards. I think he played b/c Torts is unhappy about other forwards going to the net.

You watch other teams set up screens on a regular basis in front of the Flyers net, and watch as Flyers forwards roam around the perimeter, you get frustrated.

I think the player I'm most disappointed in is Farabee, after a summer when he was finally healthy and could work out, doesn't seem to have any more grit in his play - he's got the hands to thrive around the net but seems to shy from crowds.

Brink has to play better 5x5, he has real value on PP2 (Michkov makes him redundant on PP1) but has to be able to hold his own.

You carve out a solid 10 minutes from better players who could play instead.

Deslauriers sucks in front of the net. This process doesn't justify.

How many franchises allow the HC to step in and veto draft selections? That should not be his role. That’s why a club has a GM and a scouting department. The job of the HC should be to get the best team play from the players that he is given.
When did Torts veto a draft selection?

Who the hell's Emil Andrae

After drafting York, Andrae was/has been the next best D prospect in the system. Then Bonk got drafted two years ago. Andrae is also a listed reason from Briere as to why the Flyers did not draft Buium.

At 5'9 he plays bigger than he is tall.

Try to imagine Torts claiming he couldn’t use a certain player because the defense would be too big and unskilled.

It’s ok, I can’t either.

One day people will realize that size is one of the least important parts of hockey, but I’ll be dead by then.
